As soon as you spray Oesel, the DNA of Fleur du Male is unmistakable, yet here it feels more refined and restrained. The profile is more discreet, with an amber nuance that softens everything. The floral balance is superior: the orange blossom remains, but less intense, without that expansive punch of Gaultier’s classic. I absolutely love this more reserved character, making it far more wearable and versatile for everyday wear. Nowadays, finding a bottle of Fleur du Male is almost a lottery: not just due to the price, but the risk of landing a poorly preserved bottle. Oesel emerges as a worthy heir (perhaps even a ‘niche copy’ that does the job better), keeping the spirit alive while adding an extra layer of quality. Compared to other alternatives like Custo Barcelona, it is undoubtedly superior in both quality and presence.
