Iris Violet by Alexandre.J

Alexandre J Iris Violet was a unique piece in my collection that, for strange reasons, never won me over and I’ve since discontinued it. It smells romantic and feminine, housed in that over-the-top bottle typical of the brand which divides opinions but is quite distinct from the rest. It’s a fruity blend with a very powdery iris, set against a base of musk and wood. To me, the combination of fruity sweetness with that iris didn’t sit well; it was difficult to wear, especially as I prefer other iris notes. The trail is moderate and lasts 5–6 hours on my skin. It’s not one of the house’s most potent fragrances, but if it captivates you, it smells very personal; it could be a hit for others, though this Alexandre J simply wasn’t for me. Scent 5/10, longevity 5.5/10, trail 7/10, value for money 7/10, versatility 6/10, packaging 6/10. Would I buy again? No.

I remember when I was little, sitting in a wooden high chair in the courtyard of a guard station, watched over and doted on by all the married women living there with their Civil Guard husbands. We spent spring afternoons in a small town in Extremadura full of orange trees that bring back wonderful memories, even though I was barely a baby. Just in a nappy and accompanied by my friend Gusiluz (a doll whose head lights up if you press its tummy), at dusk we were served a metal plate piled high with fresh fruit from back then—so fresh, sweet, healthy, and with brilliant colour. Pineapple, banana, apple, and pomegranate, all bathed in a splash of orange juice. Mmmm… I remember it perfectly 🤗. What a treat! Just thinking about it makes me drool. Can you picture it? No? Well, press the atomiser of this Iris Violet to find out. Exactly like that: a plate of perfectly cut, fresh fruit is its opening. But it’s not just a little bowl of fruit salad, I swear, it’s much more. Soon it turns mature, slightly powdery, with far more iris than violet, and let’s not forget the cashmere; it complements everything so beautifully. I love it. It’s definitely a summer fragrance, but it has plenty of personality and presence without being too strong, although it’s quite noticeable for many hours on the skin. Citric and creamy at the same time. Scent 10. I recommend it wholeheartedly. It’s a niche brand; I must admit it didn’t take to me at first, but… there are several others that, after trying them a few times, I’m absolutely loving. Hats off to these little fruits!
