Le Beau Le Parfum by Jean Paul Gaultier

It’s my definitive party scent: it projects massively, everyone loves it, and it gives me a real energy boost. It has a strange balance between dark and tropical notes. Just a word of warning: the piña colada note is key; if you don’t like that aroma, it won’t appeal to you as much as it does to me. Honestly, it’s one of my top five out of my collection of over 50 fragrances.

Personally, I recommend using it at a maximum of 17 degrees because it’s very dense and potent. The trail is heavy and it’s enjoyed too much in the cold, but in the heat, I wouldn’t even mention it. I don’t understand why so many people recommend it for summer; in autumn and winter it’s a gem, with the iris bringing out its most powerful side.

PERFECT. For me, it’s one of the top three best I’ve ever smelled and currently it’s the best in my collection (until I can get hold of Stdy or Ysl EDP). It smells incredible and is super versatile. Scent: 10/10, Longevity: 9/10, Projection: 9/10, Quality: 10/10. Final verdict: A solid 10/10.

I recently smelled the Le Beau EDP on blotter and skin, asked if it was a recent batch and they confirmed it, and indeed it has changed quite a bit. Previously it was a brutal trail of coconut, pineapple, wood and iris, a tropical and rogue experience. This batch feels subdued, like the trail of the EDT. I compared them and the difference is noticeable; the base of the EDP is darker with the tonka bean and amber making the difference with the EDT. In my case, it lasts longer than the EDT, but yes. IN SUMMARY: There has been a reformulation and changes. If it was an 11/10 before, now it’s an 8/10.

Folks, I bought another one a year and a month ago as a backup; its batch number is 42811. Did the reformulation happen by then (September 2024)? Anyone with that batch who can share their personal opinion?

I used this perfume again today after a year, I think (I have so many). What can I say? An elegance from start to finish. My batch is from 2023. It is the best perfume from JPG.

From what I’ve experienced since I got it, I don’t feel the excitement everyone has in saying it’s a great perfume; for me, it’s a satisfactory 7 but nothing more. I don’t feel the longevity attributed to it, nor the sillage. Is it good? Yes, but it just doesn’t quite work for me.

It is summer and time lacks urgency; there is no rush to wake up. Breakfast awaits on the terrace with the indolence of ten in the morning: freshly cut pineapple slices and the milky pulp of coconut, served under the lull of the sea and the distant cry of gulls. Suddenly, a slap awakens the skin of an exquisite body; it is the lover, not the wife. The air still vibrates with the echo of a night of pleasure, charged with the magnetism of the forbidden. It is a body that has just emerged from the shower, where love was made under cold water to welcome the sun, yet it retains in its pores the memory of desire. Breakfast becomes a game of double entendres: eating the fruit is, in reality, devouring each other. They walk along the shore, letting the salty water lap at their feet. Their bare hands intertwine, without rings, hiding the sin in full daylight. Lunch arrives with the freshness of vegetables and a thick juice, crowned by a fruit salad bathed in honey that leaves the lips sticky. Under the shadow of the coconut palms, the heat becomes dense, almost solid. The lovers keep a complicit silence; the stifling heat does not invite an embrace, but an electric closeness, a silent stalking while they wait for the cool of the night. At sunset, music invades the beach. A fire is lit with shipwrecked wood, timber dragged by the sea from who knows where. With the appearance of the first star, the soul of the perfume explodes: a sweet and acidic wood recognised from afar. A suddenly dark breeze forces the lover to seek refuge in her chest; the heat no longer annoys, it is now the fuel for the encounter. Deep kisses, hands reclaiming their forbidden places under the cover of darkness. They move away from the music and light, sinking into the sand hidden by a pale moon. There, they make love slowly, while the smoke of the salt-impregnated wood clings to their white garments. It is a scent that anticipates to them, with every exhalation, that this sin inevitably leads to hell. To the sweet hell.

A very versatile fragrance suitable for any occasion, though it would be perfect if it lasted an hour or two longer.

I absolutely love Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes; this one seems more tropical and modern, with a sweetness that is well-integrated. It has medium-to-high projection and very solid longevity, over 8 hours on my skin. It usually brings compliments, you can tell, but without being annoying. I see it as modern, seductive, and sweet, with nocturnal elegance, although if dosed correctly, it can work during the day. It seems more mature and refined than the original Le Beau, less youthful and more polished, perhaps due to the iris. In my opinion, it works brilliantly in relaxed settings, elegant outings, or dates. For work in enclosed spaces, it might be too much for sensitive noses, so it’s better to moderate it or save it for other moments.

Total fragrance bomb, easily one of my top 5. I feel sorry for people who buy the new batches and say they don’t perform at all. Mine is from 2021, so it must be one of the good ones. The scent is exquisite: a tropical coconut that becomes richer as it dries. The longevity is madness on my skin; I put it on yesterday and I can still smell it. Over 24 hours, I swear I’m not lying; I don’t know of anything else that lasts this long. I have tried Bharara King, Arabian Tonka, Atlas, and all those that claim 12 hours, but Le Beau makes no sense. The sillage lasts a good 3 hours moderately, decaying very slowly, and right up against the skin it is an eternity. A note: I bought it in 2023 and it couldn’t be found anywhere in Argentina. I hunted for it every day until a pharmacy brought three in stock at a good price. I didn’t hesitate for a second; when I finished the purchase and updated the page, there were no more left. I was extremely lucky.

I have the 2025 batch and I don’t understand the people who say it doesn’t last. In my experience, it lasts about 12 hours on skin and projects strongly for the first 3. It is a scent you won’t find in other perfumes; if you want to smell good as a man and you like coconut and dense tropical perfumes, this is the one for you. Update: it has lasted up to 15 or 16 hours right up against my skin.

Honestly, I bought it because of the reviews and the hype, and I was greatly disappointed. First, the performance in my case and batch is terrible. Everyone announces great projection and longevity, but it is nothing like that. As soon as I apply it, I sense a single powerful and synthetic wood note, and little else. It lasts half an hour on skin and a maximum of 5 hours on clothes. I don’t understand why everyone paints it as ultra-powerful, cloying, and with good projection, when it has a woeful performance. Regarding the declared notes, personally I only sense the wood and a little in the dry down, but the coconut is almost non-existent, like in a body cream. The product is original, but at least in the batch I got, it is a tremendous disappointment.

Previously I had heard about this perfume from other people, even tested it on skin in department stores and I loved it, it fascinated me. But at the moment of buying it, I don’t know if it was a reformulation or a batch change, it doesn’t last NOTHING on me. I put a moderate amount of sprays and half an hour later there is nothing, not even up against the skin. I thought it was olfactory fatigue, but not even other people perceived it when I asked. Maybe it is my pH, I want to think, because it is a perfume with an exquisite scent, but it doesn’t last at all on my skin.
