Descripción
Tiger by Zoologist Perfumes is a woody-spicy fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2023, this composition features the olfactory signature of Cristiano Canali. The top notes unfold with a vibrant kumquat, saffron, and cardamom; the heart reveals a harmony of carrot seeds, incense, ambrette musk, and sambac jasmine; while the base notes anchor the essence with vetiver, ebony wood, Egyptian papyrus, and suede.

I certainly do not associate this scent with a tiger or its habitat; if they told me it was ‘Bumble Bee’ or ‘fruit fly’, I’d say wow. It doesn’t smell bad; quite the opposite, I think it’s one of the most wearable scents from the brand and you won’t be pointed at as if you were wearing T-Rex or Moth. I love its smell, and above all how it evolves on the skin; many compare it to Encre Noire-Coromandel, but only at the end does it give me that impression of that wet vetiver. I had a sample and had to buy the bottle.
Very similar to Irish Leather by Memo, but without the leather, palely green, weaker, and with far less character… simply disappointing. Where is the tiger?
It opens with a delicious note of orange (perhaps kumquat?) surrounded by smoke, giving way to a deep and wonderful vetiver. It then shifts to something warmer with light spices. There is a very pleasant and elegant incense. It’s like embracing a domesticated tiger on a spring afternoon and sinking into its fur with a sigh. This perfume purrs. It is so pleasant and charming that I would wear it without shame, time and again. Make way, please. Nothing strange to see here. Just my tiger and I.
Zoologist fragrances need to be understood with an elevated perspective; they have more accolades than many newer brands would envy. As perfume lovers know, everything is about context, and this brand articulates that in each scent. The tiger concept is crouched at midnight in Africa, waiting to strike. If the scent aligns, the objective is achieved: this is niche perfumery, not simplistic commercial fare designed to please everyone. Well executed according to the narrative, it’s a distinct leather—not the typical kind, but the other version that few see.
It opens with wood and rare, hard-to-identify citrus notes, but once it dries down it becomes wonderful, very reminiscent of Elysium DNA by Roja.
