This is my second Thalia fragrance; I’ve adored her since 1994 and always wanted to try this after so many launches and collaborations. I loved those Thalia Sodi line bottles, though I admit they don’t look quite as good in real life as they do in the photos. I started with Liquid Sun, which is fresh and unisex, very similar to Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino. This Absolute Amethyst is a different story altogether: opulent, dense, and true to the colour of its packaging. The blend of notes reminds me of ripe grapes, spices, and coriander, and that last note is precisely what doesn’t convince me. I’ll keep it as a collector’s item and for its music. The composition is dense and sweet, without being gourmand, with that air of the late 90s and early 2000s. It’s a mature, nocturnal, and rich fragrance where the orchid shines, although sometimes it feels heavy. The sweetness of the vanilla and tonka, along with the juiciness of the nectarine, evoke that grape vibe and the bottle’s tone. Gradually, the coriander emerges, which together with the tequila adds complexity; I feel they used it deliberately since Mexico is Thalia’s home, evoking her culinary culture. It performs much better than Liquid Sun; they are day and night. While this is nocturnal, heavy, and long-lasting, Liquid Sun is for daily and casual wear. I hope to get the ones I’m missing soon, preferably all of them.

It’s a characterful fragrance that evolves beautifully on the skin. It begins woody, spicy and very masculine, then turns sweet and smoky, hinting at incense which transports me to the Middle East. It’s oily, long-lasting and has great projection. I was surprised by it, although it hasn’t quite won me over yet; I’ll need to give it some time.

I was gifted a decant of this perfume and thank God it was only that, because I passed it on to someone else. It smells too much like a lady, both fresh and dry, quite strong and very woody. The coriander seems to be the discordant note, making it more masculine. It is an absolute.
