Descripción
Ambre Precieux by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 1988, this composition was created by perfumer Jean-François Laporte. In its opening, myrrh and lavender give way to a warm heart of vanilla and nutmeg, while the base rests on an amber accord of amber, balsam of Tolu and balsam of Peru.

To do justice to this classic, one must admit it is a reference amber, a benchmark in the genre. I would have loved to try the original unreformulated version, but that’s what we have. I adore the opening; the lavender is noticeable for just a few seconds before blending perfectly with the myrrh and the rest of the balsamic notes. It’s hard to distinguish the ingredients; everything is mixed with mastery. It doesn’t evolve, staying linear until the dry-down. It’s pleasant, warm, yet quite soft, a skin scent. Being so linear and having a shy performance, it feels a bit dull compared to other greats like Ambre Fetiche, Ambre Sultan, or Ambre Doré, but it has well-earned respect and is worth trying. On my skin it lasts 7 to 8 hours, it’s a skin scent, noticeable up close, with a weak but perceptible trail. Rating: 7/10

It suits me well. It opens floral with lavender, then turns sweet and resinous with plenty of vanilla and Peru and Tolu balsams. There’s a dirty touch, perhaps nutmeg, incense, or leather. In the dry-down it leans gourmand without crossing the line. Hard not to like it; it reminded me of Ambre 114. Ideal for autumn, winter, and evening. Lasts a long time with a moderate trail.
