Santal Noble by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier is a woody-spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 1988, this composition was created by perfumer Jean-François Laporte. The top notes of coffee, incense and spices open the scent; the heart reveals a blend of sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla; while the base settles on amber, oakmoss, vetiver and musk.

Noble Santal used to be the benchmark for sandalwood, with an opening of coffee and frankincense that made quite an impact. In the middle, the spiced sandalwood felt elegant and sweet, thanks to the vanilla and patchouli, which gave body and density to that woody base; as it dried, it became almost oriental due to that amber note. At the end, it always reminded me of Sables, but following the reformulation, it has become weak and watery compared to its previous version. Rating for the original: 8.
