Après l’Amour by Thomas Kosmala

Perfume with nuclear projection and trail. I’ve tried many ‘beast mode’ fragrances, and none have the power of this one. As soon as I spray it, I’m enchanted by its opening, but after 30 seconds I stop smelling it; every 2 or 3 hours I get intense bursts. This perfume caused headaches, discomfort, and dislike among my surroundings (family, friends) when I used 5 sprays; now I only use 2. The scent isn’t easy to explain here: I recommend trying it before buying at full price. It has much of the BR540 DNA, but its dry-down takes a very different turn; here there are no middle grounds, you either love it or hate it. This fragrance invades everything: it lingers in your car, your bed, your wardrobe, your room, and every place you pass through. IMPORTANT EDIT: I can’t smell it anymore, but I managed to detect it on a shirt in the laundry basket that had been there for two weeks; HOWEVER, people can still smell it even with just one spray 10 hours later, they say it’s perceived very strongly. This perfume is too deceptive.

Indeed, it resembles BR540, but spiced… To my BR540, it seems a sweet, metallic, piercing, and plastic scent. To that description for Après l’Amour, I only have to add spiced. So my description of Après l’Amour is: sweet, metallic, piercing, plastic, and spiced. To all who love this scent, forgive me and don’t take what I’m about to write to heart: it seems to me a HORRIBLE and STRANGE perfume. My respects to those for whom this perfume smells good on their skin. On my skin and for my olfaction, this is horrendous. Already, the mere fact that it resembles another STRANGE perfume like BR540 was a disappointment. Fortunately, I tested both Après l’Amour and BR540 in 10 ml decants and avoided the significant expense of buying them. I am in several perfume lover groups where many people upload reviews of their purchases, and obviously, it generated anxiety for me to try and buy those two. Thank goodness there are people who sell by millilitre and I avoided spending my money on something I DIDN’T LIKE AT ALL.

I received it a few days ago. It has an air reminiscent of Mancera Instant Crush, but Thomas Kosmala outperforms it in longevity. I applied it at 7 am and visited a friend at 3 pm; we were outdoors and I was in the car. As soon as I stepped out, he said: ‘oh, wow’ (an expression of amazement). ‘What perfume are you wearing?’ I told him it was Thomas Kosmala 4, and he said it smelled very strong. Honestly, after a while of applying it to my skin, I stop smelling it. I like it, it has a pleasant scent, but it can cause olfactory fatigue. My mother-in-law said: ‘I’m trying to decipher the aroma but I can’t understand what it smells like’. In conclusion, it’s a fragrance that makes itself noticed and has a pleasant aroma. If you already have Mancera or something similar, I don’t recommend buying it much, unless you are a huge fan of that scent. People have told me Kalan smells along that line, but honestly, I don’t know it.

After reading so many varied reviews, I took the plunge to buy it blindly and I’m happy. I’m sure it causes olfactory blindness for many people, but for me, it’s the exact opposite: it’s a cheerful, potent aroma with an enormous trail and bestial longevity. It doesn’t resemble my beloved Instant Crush nor my BR540 decant. On my skin, it opens with a fresh citrus note, evolves quickly into spiced woods with a balanced sweetness that makes it addictive. I perceive the musk as high quality. Completely recommended for those who enjoy olfactory challenges, as it behaves differently on each pH. Without a doubt, I will buy it again when I run out. P.S. I’ve ordered Kosmala Number 5 (Frenesie) blindly; let’s see if it captivates me.

Another BR540 inspiration (there are already enough). Unlike Aventus, these versions are more versatile, revolving around sweetness and the feminine/masculine side. This one is slightly more citrusy and masculine, with better longevity and projection, which is why I rate it well. It would be the best if they didn’t overdo the formula and cause olfactory fatigue. Is the aim to wear a scent I don’t perceive but others do? Yes, compliments, but for personal pleasure, they take a back seat. Would I buy it again? If not for the common scent and fatigue, yes, but with these two points, no. I will try to sell it losing as little as possible; its hype is greater than it should be.

It doesn’t resemble my Instant Crush or my BR540 decant. On my skin, it opens citrus and fresh, evolving quickly into spiced woods with an addictive, balanced sweetness. The musk is high quality. Recommended for olfactory challenges; it behaves differently on each skin. I will undoubtedly buy it again. P.S. I ordered the Kosmala Number 5 (Frenesie) blind; let’s see if it captivates me.

I haven’t tried much of the 540, but this leans more masculine and easily lasts over 12 hours on skin with a brutal trail. The first few times it gave me mild headaches. If you want a more affordable version of the 540, there’s the Armaf Untold option, which is very similar to these two and the N° 4, but there’s a difference in dry-down and longevity: Untold doesn’t last more than 5-6 hours and caused me olfactory fatigue after a few months; the N° 4 caused it to me on the first day at 4 hours, so I stopped smelling it, but others could still detect it.

It doesn’t smell bad, but it wears out the noses of those around us. It doesn’t smell as much like BR540; I find it more unisex with a masculine air. A colleague uses it and here’s the detail: it’s an absolute bomb. So much so that it drew attention; we work in healthcare and perfume should be discreet, if not absent for patients… she never understood until she was shouted at seriously. She’d just walk in and we’d know she’d arrived, even a day after she’d left.

To my taste, it’s a heavy fragrance that floods the room; what remains on clothes after washing is Blue Laverne Bakhur. Of course, not everyone likes the same thing.

There’s a lot of talk about this perfume and I ordered a decant to get to know it. I didn’t like it at all. To start with, it smells VERY alcoholic and then has a very caramelised scent but not in a good way; I even had nausea when smelling it for long periods. That said… it projects a lot and has a huge trail. It’s a powerful perfume but in no way to my taste. In the end, every nose is a world, but this is definitely not for me.

This is a beast mode in every sense. It has BR540 DNA but, in my opinion, gives it a slightly effeminate touch. I love it; I use it and it doesn’t cause olfactory fatigue. I see it as very versatile and haven’t had problems using it in heat, although I recommend more using it in cooler climates.

Smells like waking up in bed wrapped in white sheets with the love of your life. The trail and longevity are powerful. Be careful with olfactory fatigue, because if you over-spray, you’ll fill the room with cotton candy-like scent. Don’t buy blindly; it can be overwhelming for some people.

I’d like to remember what this smells like; from a while ago, I can’t perceive it at all. I think my receptors have been damaged by the molecules of this fragrance. It’s something very strange that has happened to me with this perfume.
