Once again, I’m blown away by a Romanian fragrance; in my view, Romania is doing luxury work in perfumery and cosmetics. Behind Closed Doors is by Flavius Calaj, owner of Calaj, and while his name already suggests quality, this has genuinely surprised me. Here, honey and beeswax take centre stage; normally, I can’t handle strong honey notes, but here they’re so well integrated that this sweet, acidic, and animalic touch becomes addictive. The base is ambered and intensely animalic, lasting for hours on skin, while the spicy heart, packed with cumin and cinnamon, gives it a brutal personality. As for performance, there’s no need to discuss it… It’s like Miguel Matos’ Out the Open: a true extrait where the intensity, concentration, and density are noticeable all the way through. A new favourite for my collection in the near future!
