  • First review of this lost jewel, perhaps the last given how difficult it is to find… It’s on my ‘I want’ list; I have a gifted sample but no bottle. It’s a pity it’s been discontinued for so long; it’s wonderful. It’s powdery, soapy and floral, with a sweet base that makes it succulent without being gourmand, very well balanced. According to the sample: TOP: Freesia and mandarin, HEART: Orange blossom and sweet pea, BASE: Fresh vanilla and sandalwood. At first it’s tender and fresh-floral, then sweeter with the orange blossom, vanilla and sandalwood. The mimosa gives it that soapy, powdery touch; there’s clove but the main thing is its mimosa accord, similar to Guerlain’s ‘Champs Elysees’ (without the almond). It’s delicious, sunny and optimistic. I wish this sample lasted forever… I used it today and it’s perfect for the first days of spring. Greetings from Chile!

  • Byzantine opens with a beautiful clove blended with freesia and mimosa, which then takes centre stage. The mimosa is sweet, ambered and slightly powdery with heliotrope, dominating everything. At first it’s fresh, but it becomes sensual with a creamy sandalwood. It remains calm, warm and carefree; nothing narcotic or wild, but timidly oriental and floral. It recalls Byzance but is less spicy. It’s not like Guerlain’s Champs Elysees, which is more aggressive. The citrus plays with the mimosa, which rules. I got lucky with a tester; it’s hard to find. I received two compliments; the longevity is good, it doesn’t leave much of a trail but lasts long on the skin, especially for the first two hours.

The perfume I could never have 🙁 I knew it as a child in the 90s through BYZANCE advertisements in magazines like Cosmopolitan and Vogue; it obsessed me. When I saw it in a shop, I asked for a tester solely because of the advert and never smelled anything like it again 🙁 It’s pure nostalgia. What a pity they don’t make it anymore.

  • It’s my perfume; I truly adore it. I’ve been searching for a substitute for years and there isn’t one 😞. I managed to get it on eBay and keep it like a treasure. It suited my skin perfectly the first time and did so again years later. It’s incredible and I want it forever.
