It has just arrived at my house so I can only talk about the first impressions the fragrance itself has left on me, I can’t say anything about sillage or longevity until I put it to the test, but first of all I have to say I was really surprised by how similar it is to Black Opium Over Red. I wasn’t expecting it because although they share several notes, I’d seen several reviews stressing that Cherry Gossip is a more gourmand, sweeter perfume, and with liquorice in the opening I imagined it would stand out a lot. I find them very, very similar in scent, Over Red is my absolute favourite so I’m delighted to have a similar perfume in my collection to wear a lot. Still, I wouldn’t say they’re clones, they just have a very similar DNA because the notes that stand out most are cherry and coffee. It’s not sickly at all and it’s not a “medicinal cherry” either. As I said, I can’t say much more about the perfume yet because I’m writing this review just after trying it on skin, but I feel it’s too soft… I don’t know how it will evolve over the hours, on me at least I think it won’t last long. I hope it surprises me in that respect too and I’m wrong in the end. I don’t pick up the woody and powdery notes anywhere, as I said what I smell most is coffee, cherry and perhaps jasmine and vanilla as well. The bottle is super cool, it reminds me of 1950s ice cream/milkshake glasses (I don’t know why) and Dr. Pepper cans.
Arrived straight home, so I can only speak to the first impression: trail and longevity, nothing more until I test it thoroughly. What did catch me off guard is how similar it smells to Black Opium Over Red. I wasn’t expecting that, as although they share notes, I’ve read that Cherry Gossip is more gourmand and sweet, and with licorice in the opening I thought it would be more noticeable. In terms of scent, the two are very similar; Over Red is my favourite and I love having something like this in my collection. They aren’t clones, but they share DNA because what stands out most is the cherry and coffee. Nothing cloying or like ‘medicinal cherry’. As I said, I’m writing this straight after spraying it on my skin and it feels very soft… I don’t know how it will develop over time; in my opinion, it won’t last long. I hope it surprises me and I’m wrong. I don’t detect the woody or powdery notes; what I smell most is coffee, cherry, perhaps jasmine and vanilla. The bottle is super cool, it reminds me of 1950s ice cream cups and Dr Pepper cans.
