Another gem from the universe; what luck to have it in my collection. At first, the moss, aldehydes and bergamot dominate with force. Then, a dark, indolic, silky and bold jasmine emerges from the depths, accompanied by leather notes, gradually taking centre stage. I also detect clove, galbanum and lilac; the rose is shy until the very end. This floral blend in a chypre makes it stand out among its contemporaries. The benzoin, elemi, musk, subtle touches of sandalwood and patchouli, plus the amber, create that mystery and exotic touch typical of well-made chypres with superior materials. The result is a chypre that plays heavily with its florals, reminiscent of Chanel N5 for the moss, jasmine and aldehydes, and Tabac Blond for the leather and clove. It also carries that hint of Guerlain Mistouko and Coty Chypre, as if it brought together the best of all in a perfect balance. Without a doubt, a little gem by Mr Jean Desprez that would almost forty years later inspire Bal à Versailles. A beautiful, substantial, luxurious scent, hard to find and deserving of all attention. This review is about the vintage extract.
