  I notice no one has taken the time to review this Guy Laroche masterpiece; it gives me satisfaction that its refreshing, powerful, and charming scent isn’t everywhere. The women who have been by my side can’t stop talking about how lovely my lotion smells. I’ve really enjoyed its captivating dry-down, which lingers on the skin for twelve hours, featuring a generous tonka bean note. It starts with a refreshing citrus and woody opening, accented by a masculine musk that I believe is what catches the girls’ attention. Whether day or night, you’ll be in tune wherever you go, as its evolving notes make you feel confident, persisting attractively on the skin for twelve hours. The ingredients seem high-quality, as if trying to revive the great glories of the highly acclaimed Drakkar Noir. This launch by Michel Girard is very apt. The best part is it isn’t ‘overdone’, as we say in Mexico when everyone uses the same thing. I’m hooked on its scent and believe it will be my favourite for everyday wear this summer. Thank you, Michel Girard, for your work.

  It’s a re-reading of Mr Michel Girard’s One Million under the Cool Water philosophy… and for those who like it on her. Although I’ve never liked Cool Water, I respect its legion, and I’m addressing them directly: in this Essence, you’ll recover what was lost in the original Davidoff in terms of longevity and projection, with a modernised approach but retaining its own signature. Drakkar Essence, while not innovative, proposes something cold and intense, with excellent performance and mentholated accords, dry, talc-like and rolled in the ice of a mineral and sterile tonka bean; it feels extremely cold and tonic (grapefruit). The synthetic, plasticky musk provides support, while a hypocritical wood adds body without play in the pyramid, offering only support from a translucent, aquatic wood. It’s a throwaway fragrance, one of those that ends up in shops like Ross or TJ Maxx and which, over time, ends up costing a fortune. That said, as soon as spring arrives, I’ll give it a proper airing, as it offers so much for so little that it’s worth it. It’s not a recommendation, just a north of my own ideas.

  What a disappointment. I was hoping for the DNA of my favourite, Drakkar Noir, but it’s like night and day. It opens with a powerful citrus grapefruit note and a generic aquatic touch that really puts me off. Plus, it lasts no more than two hours. This Guy Laroche fragrance is a complete miss.
