Descripción

Clandestine by Guy Laroche is a floral fragrance for women. Launched in 1986, this composition was created by perfumer Daniel Molière. In its top notes, the fragrance unfolds plum, aldehydes, pineapple, cassia and bergamot; the heart reveals honey, neroli, carnation, Damask rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, iris and heliotrope; while the base settles on civet, benzoin, amber, patchouli, musk, vanilla and cedar.

  • Unlike Fendi, Paloma, Gucci 3, or Diva, here the fruit notes are clearly detectable. The rose, honey, civet, and aldehydes so common in other fragrances from that decade blend in Clandestine with plum and pineapple notes. It is a typical powdery, semi-animalic floral of the era, but with a fruity and vanilla imprint that promotes another concept. The plum note is very narcotic yet cheerful and vibrant, not dark and gothic as in Poison. I haven’t quite grasped the neroli fully; I know it’s there, but it’s covered by the fruits. A rich option from the eighties for those who want a punchy eighties floral with ‘chypre’ vibes without actually being one, making it lighter to wear. I love the perfume’s graphic campaign, a mix of the eighties and the twenties. It catches the eye and invites you to try the fragrance. My review is based on the eighties eau de toilette.

A lavish, dense perfume with plenty of attitude. My mother wore it in the eighties, and you can’t imagine the fury she felt when it was discontinued in my city. It was potent with a personality distinct from the perfumes of that era. It follows in Poison’s footsteps, yet Clandestine was more luminous, whereas Poison was darker and gothic. I remember it as a fruity scent reminiscent of fermented plums, with the gloss of pineapple in syrup mixed with honey. All wrapped in an almost dirty animalic aura, yet the sheen of the blend made it dense close to the skin and ethereal in its trail. It didn’t have a heavy sillage. The bottle was beautiful, and one could say it was the precursor to today’s fruity-florals. The difference is that Clandestine possessed that touch of over-the-top, sublime elegance that made it unmistakable. A scent from years ago that would be very current right now. A glorious and sophisticated perfume.
