Thanks to my friend chefpepor, I was able to try Epicea, a ‘Vaulted’ fragrance reserved for the future. It is a clean, transparent spicy scent, highly evocative of the Eau de Cologne from 1965, when Creed used the name ‘Epice’ to reinvent itself. At first, it deceives with a fresh citrus opening, but soon settles into a sharp, classic ‘barber soap’. Perhaps it is the simplest fragrance from the house: as it dries, it recalls great classics from Roger & Gallet, Rochas, and Dior, with that 17th-century lavender-clove accord, touched by a non-pungent pine edge that gives it an old-school, pristine, and transparent masculine aura. In my opinion, the performance is a little below average, hovering around six hours, but the notes are very natural and translucent. Its best use is on sunny or mild days, or after a sauna, as it proves very tonifying. It suits both formal and informal occasions; it is a safe, classic scent, though nothing particularly novel. It is not a must-have, because if you are looking for it, there are proposals such as ‘Extra Vieille’ from Roger & Gallet or Eau de Rochas. You make the best decision.
