First Instinct Blue is an aquatic aromatic fragrance, easy to use and agreeable. I’d place it in the ‘blind gifts’ category; it’s unlikely to offend anyone. But that virtue is also its flaw: it’s a fruity-lavender scent settling into tonka bean, amber, and sandalwood. It pays homage to clean 90s fragrances like CK Eternity, Polo Sport, or Ferrioni, as well as Versace Pour Homme Dylan Blue. By pleasing everyone, it lacks its own personality and gets lost among those. It lasted seven or eight hours with average projection. I like it, but there are surely cheaper alternatives.

It’s one of the most charming ones I own; everyone I’ve told about it has loved it. It’s sold super cheaply, but its major drawback is low durability. For me, it doesn’t last more than two or three hours (and I admit my skin is tricky), and indeed, it’s not very long-lasting. Use it for quick errands or if you know you’ll be back soon, or leave it in the car for driving. I love smelling it in the bottle; it’s super pleasant, but it’s frustrating that it fades so quickly. If you don’t mind the longevity, you won’t regret it.

I bought it blindly and was satisfied. It’s fresh, interesting, with citrus, aquatic, and woody notes. It has good sillage and lasts about six hours on my skin. It’s like a mix between Tous Man Intense and Tous Man Sport: lighter than the Intense (which feels heavy on me) and as fresh as the Sport. I don’t see any resemblance to Eternity or Polo Sport. Ideal for the office or informal meetings. I recommend it; the price is good.

It’s a very rich fragrance, with fresh openings and a savoury scent, typical blue perfume. It’s a pity it doesn’t last or project anything; maximum four hours, and then it seems like you didn’t apply any perfume. They should work on a more potent flanker because the fragrance is rich, but it fades quickly. Abercrombie, work on enhancing this gem.

  • At first, it smells very similar to Lacoste French Panache: apple, lavender, citrus, and pepper, only that here there’s cardamom. They are very similar, but then they take different paths; at some point, it reminds me of Dior Sauvage and a bit of Cool Water. I notice more woods than freshness in CW; it’s a mix of those but less intense. Later, the pepper, cardamom, and amber are felt strongly. Did I like it? Yes, very much.

  • It’s rich. Looking at the notes, one might think it’s identical to Y by Yves Saint Laurent, but it’s very different. It brought a vague memory of Acqua Di Gio Profondo due to its bergamot, although Profondo is more balsamic and resinous.

The opening is fresh but the scent feels very common, nothing special. Its projection is weak and it fades within three hours; ideal for home or the gym, but there are better options for the price. The good thing is it smells nice, though after four hours it’s as if I haven’t worn anything. If I’d known about its poor performance beforehand, I wouldn’t have bought it, but there are few reviews discussing it.
