  • Saying this smells like Ganymede is nonsense, and I’m no hater of Zara. The similarity lies only in the metallic tones, and there we leave it.

Just tried it in-store and yes, at first it smells very much like Ganymede. Once the alcohol settles (remember, it’s €15 versus nearly €200), the opening is very similar. At home, spraying the original on the other hand, I notice differences, but I’d say they’re 80-90% the same. Of course, it has more plastic tones and inferior quality to Marc Antoine Barrios (only just, haha). As it dries, it moves away a bit: Ganymede goes for a colder, drier metallic leather, while Gold Oddity sweetens and becomes more approachable, perhaps less feminine. Still, I see it as 70-80% similar. On performance, it’s hard to compare because the original gives me anosmia and I’m not aware I’m wearing it (no one has asked anything), whereas I notice Zara’s, perhaps due to that slightly sweeter, shriller, plastic touch. I’m not saying it replaces Ganymede, as it lacks Quentin Bisch’s elegance, but it is a way to smell very similar for little money, ideal for daily wear or work. Seems like a good call by Zara, just like Pistachio Infusion, which I tried today and for €10 beats Kayali’s Yum Pistacchio hands down. Well done Zara, hope they keep it up!

At home, spraying it on the other hand alongside the original, I notice differences, but I’d say they’re 80-90% alike. As it dries, it diverges a bit more: Ganymede moves towards a cold, dry metallic leather, whereas Gold Oddity sweetens, becomes kinder, and perhaps less feminine. Still, I see it as 70-80% similar.
