HM by Hanae Mori

The one that arrived says HM by Hanae Mori EDP; it doesn’t clarify if it’s for men or women and is sold as such. I’m clarifying this because it gave me the impression it was more for women… it smells interesting and has a huge trail, but I can’t recall which perfume it reminds me of. It’s very floral with a touch of vanilla; the valley lily is very present, along with rose, jasmine, vanilla, and amber. I can’t find any lavender, woods, or masculine notes to associate it with unisex, even slightly… I think it’s not for men, at least the one I bought. How strange? Now, reviewing something, it resembles one that fits me perfectly, the Lab i White Pal Zileri bottle, but that would be 100% masculine, taking a bit of the flowers out and highlighting the lime and woods… I’m left wondering which version I bought. I’ve been wearing it for a while, and if it turns out to be very powdery floral, I still think it suits unisex, or perhaps it’s just a little less masculine than the fragrance suggests.

I want to say this is a fantastic fragrance; it’s one of those hidden jewels that captivates you if you happen to come across it. What you need to do is admire it as it dries down, as the opening is a bit strong, like an eighties fragrance, but then the magic happens. It’s a singular scent, and I agree with one opinion: you will smell different from anyone nearby. I apply just two sprays on my neck and three on my clothes, and people have praised the scent; I repeat a fragrance that makes an impression.

Hanae Mori HM. I’m talking about the EDT version, as there is also an EDP I haven’t tried yet. Since I first smelled it, I was bewildered; it’s different from anything I’ve ever smelled. My partner said it smelled wonderful but didn’t know which one it was. It has that ‘attractive’ factor that invites you to keep smelling it, almost like an addiction. HM has many declared notes and feels complex, with a long development and nuances that come and go. Let me try to describe it: it opens with lemon in all its facets. The fruity aspect is present, bitter and citrusy/acidic, reinforced by blackcurrants and sweet base notes. Accompanying the lemon are flowers; for me, lavender is very prominent at the start, floral, powdery, and almost soapy. Over time, the lemon sweetens, and the vanilla and tonka bean give it a complete turn: it starts fresh and ends warm. The iris is also more perceptible than I imagined, floral, powdery, and fresh, nothing like Dior’s makeup style or Prada’s ‘luminous’ vibe. Finally, let’s highlight the chocolate: as it dries, alongside the vanilla and tonka bean, a darker chocolate emerges, more bitter than sweet, with its distinctive aroma. The three notes I highlight are lemon, vanilla, and lavender. If I’ve loved it, the longevity doesn’t fall short: it lasts 8 hours with the first two projecting and a moderate trail. It’s very versatile; I recommend it as a signature perfume. You can use it in any season, day or night, although I think it suits daytime better. I’d use it for casual wear, work, or a slightly dressed-up look, and it certainly won’t disappoint. Totally unisex, perhaps slightly more masculine, but nothing a woman can’t wear. I don’t know if some are confusing it with Hanae Mori Him; this is HM. Because I just bought a decant, confusing it with the other, due to its resemblance to a Gucci perfume, and a tremendous surprise that this Flanker arrived. But thanks to Divine Providence, I made the wrong choice. It’s a citrus with a touch like chewing gum given by the vanilla and blackcurrants. I’m surprised that this wonder is from 1997 and is talked about so little. It’s not a masterpiece… But anyway, it’s ideal for the office. It’s not a mass-produced citrus that goes from lemon or bergamot with musk and woods… It has its charm. It’s true that it touches upon unisex a bit, because it’s a scent without flags… It’s for smelling good. It suits the young (17-40) better. For $22, a fresh fragrance in Eau de Parfum concentration… This is a ‘must-buy’. Someone who says so, whose collection is mostly fresh (citrus, marine, blue, etc.). Due to the climate in my country… And this Old School is different and has earned its place.

As some wrote in previous reviews, it has a note that clashes. I bought it blindly for its price online; the first spray gave me a headache and even nausea. After a few days, I gave it a second chance. This time I found it unisex, but it’s definitely still very strident; it’s not for me.

Absolutely brilliant! I must admit I was wrong to judge it three years ago. When you only have the taste of the majority in mind, you miss out on true gems. I found the abandoned bottle of Hanae Mori HM in a drawer, with that rainy-day vibe, and it was a phenomenal reunion. What a delight: citrus mixed with sweet and spicy notes over a herbal base, a very subtle musk, and a chocolate note that adds perfect balance. I fell in love after meeting the ugliest one. Scent 9, Longevity 7, Projection 7, Value 10.

A masterpiece that ticks all the boxes for my signature scent. It starts with lemon but soon reveals a sweet side with vanilla, blackcurrants, and chocolate. There’s quite a debate about whether the chocolate is actually there, but I definitely detect it, perhaps blended with the vanilla. The longevity is excellent, lasting between 7 and 9 hours, with strong projection for the first three. Its aroma is unique; there’s nothing like it on the market and it’s hard to find in Mexico, making it a prime candidate for my signature. It has generated many compliments. It’s very versatile: suitable for summer, spring, winter, or autumn, just by moderating the application. Perfect for a date or casual wear at work. I guarantee that if you wear it, you’ll be remembered for this scent because no one else uses it and there’s nothing else like it. I ordered the EDP version from FragranceNet and I’m very happy. I give it 10/10.

I grabbed this blind because it’s unavailable in Spain. I got the EDP and I’m absolutely thrilled with the purchase. At first, it smells of salmon and freshness, reminiscent of Rochas Eau for women, but over time it becomes much more masculine as the citrus notes fade. It lasts 6 to 8 hours; perhaps the EDT projects more initially but doesn’t last as long. Ideal for informal use, especially in spring, summer, and maybe early autumn.

I bought this perfume for my husband. The first thing I said upon smelling it was: ‘It smells like a spa!’. I definitely detect the citrus and green notes. However, with its pH, the fragrance becomes soft and the trail disappears. The essence is there, but I have to lean in close to his chest to smell it again. It is fresh with a woody undertone.
