It opened my eyes: the price and the note list say nothing about the quality. For its cost, it’s a beast; I love the scent, I just wish it lasted longer, but that’s all. An absolute bargain.
I’ve been wearing this for years, since the very first bottle. The notes listed here don’t match what it smells like or how it feels. It’s a bomb of nutmeg, tonka bean, and lavender at full strength, which is why many mistake it for cinnamon. To me, it always sounds like Gentlemen Only Absolute; they aren’t identical but they walk the same street. I don’t doubt it has sandalwood in the base, just like Atlas cedar, two of the brand’s favourites.
At first, it made me a bit sick; I sensed a strong, spicy cinnamon. Then a sweeter scent emerged, like vanilla. I bought it blindly on offer. With time and more use, I won over my taste. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it blindly. The best thing is that it lasts longer than average in this price range. Use it in cool climates.
I respect the fans of Hoggar, but the aroma seemed weak… Their choice of notes (poor and unfortunate with luxury raw materials) ends up smelling like Axe Music or insecticide… It’s not unpleasant, but it doesn’t smell like ‘perfume’. I’d prefer Ambre Noir from the same brand a thousand times over: similar packaging, identical price, but with much better nuances as it’s the work of Christophe Raynaud (don’t hate the perfumer; sometimes the raw materials fail; those who are angry with Raynaud for Paco Rabanne or Quentin Bisch for Puig…). It’s almost a CH Men Privé at a third of the price and smells better on my skin, if not one of the EDP collection like Garden Party or Autour de Minuit.
Smells fantastic and lasts a long time. I gave it to my boyfriend and he’s obsessed =)
