Descripción

Lacoste Essential Collector Edition by Lacoste Fragrances is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2008, this olfactory composition was created by Laurent Bruyere. Upon its release, bergamot, tangerine orange, and cassia take the first step; the heart reveals a combination of rose and pepper; while the base settles on patchouli and sandalwood.

  • In the Collector Edition they’ve removed the tomato leaf and boosted the octane with a sweet, dry rose, chilled with undeclared mint. It recalls the dry-down phase of the base, being citrusy at first but without much play, leaving that lovely rose accent. A masterstroke by Mr Laurent Bruyere. It seems a beauty that projects extra order and sporty neatness. On my pH, on a cold January day, it lasted over six hours with pleasant awakenings. Do not miss out if you find it.

  • Very basic and not particularly sparkling, sitting between formal and fresh. Ideal for daily wear, with a touch more green notes than Nautica.

  • This new Essential is a domesticated, graceless version. They’ve removed the tomato leaf to please everyone, following that trend of perfumers and CEOs to create bland fragrances, devoid of sex or risk, overly sweet and boring. They reformulated the original under the silly excuse of ‘Collector Edition’ to make it softer. Go for the original, the one in the white box with intense green, and forget this thing.

Do not confuse the 2008 Essential, which was a work of art, with the current version, a total letdown. Previously it projected metres away and lasted 6-8 hours in summer; now it barely reaches half a metre and lacks that orange freshness. The same goes for the old Lacoste scents compared to the new ones: Match Point, L’Homme, L.12.12… everything trails off and dies without dignity. The Original Parfum barely lasts two hours, suffering through it, another disappointment.
