It’s not unpleasant, but it was a disappointment and I gifted it away. The chocolate note is discreet and pleasant; the floral and fruity notes don’t bother me either, but it has a powdery touch that, in my opinion, slightly vulgarises it. The strong notes like patchouli, musk and vanilla appear very faint in a composition that promised opulence. Notorious has poor longevity and a weak trail. It resembles many perfumes that flood the shops… Naming those that are similar would be tedious.
I bought it straight out as a Christmas present for my mother; it cost around 1,200 pesos, quite expensive. My mother, true to her Dior ways, didn’t like it, so I ended up keeping it. It’s quite pleasant, but if you use too much, it becomes heavy. I only have a few drops left. It brings me nostalgia, though I wouldn’t buy it again. I’d give it 7 out of 10.
It’s a feminine fragrance, but I liked it and used it for a while. It worked very well for me and I always received compliments on the scent.
Floral, vanilla and patchouli, with a subtle touch of pink pepper that balances everything and gives a woody sensation. A vanilla that borders on gourmet, like a creamy ice cream, not excessively sweet. To my nose, the flowers dominate: carnation with a citrusy touch at the start and powdery peonies in the dry down. It gives me the sensation of a creamy lipstick. It’s rare, fresh in the heat and sweet in the cold, like a good cup of tea. It’s coquettish and chic, easy to wear and adaptable to any climate. It evokes simple, jovial, affectionate and well-groomed women. It’s lovely, pleasant and hardly ever off-putting.
Although it’s summer, I craved Notorious today. I owned it years ago, but my mother smelled it and asked me to gift it to her, so I missed it dearly. Last year, I managed to get it at a clearance price from a cosmetics shop that closed down in Chile. I feel lucky, as it’s a spicy floral and sweet without being cloying, perfect for the heat without being tiring. It has a discreet trail and lasts over six hours. It may have similarities to others, but the carnation gives it a retro vibe that I like. I don’t detect the blackcurrant, but something reminiscent of orange at first, though it’s not listed on Fragrantica. In the dry down, vanilla and patchouli provide that comforting sweetness. It doesn’t stand out; it’s pleasant and suits my personality. For those seeking something showy, it might be boring, but if you want something sweet, discreet and versatile, I recommend it.
Notorious is simply gorgeous, feminine and elegant. The carnation gives it a vintage touch that I adore, with a certain sweetness but nothing like those cloying, diabetic-sounding scents of today. It’s discontinued, but a person I love gifted me a 50ml bottle they found at a vintage perfumer’s. I feel so happy and will make good use of it this spring.
