  1. Fendi, Chanel, Lauder… nothing like it. This is Avon. In 1992/93 they launched the French Parfums Creatifs collection with six fragrances, the first three being the most famous. One of them is Perle Noire. There is no doubt about the aromatic richness of certain Avon compositions (pre-2000). Companies are often underestimated that, for years, sold quality perfumes at a rational price, quietly competing with any top brand of the time. Perle Noire is a case where the quality matches Chanel or Fendi. It is that classic 80s floral oriental/spiced scent, centred on rose and carnation, undoubtedly Avon’s answer to Cinnabar from 1978, Coco from 1984 or Fendi from 1987. The rose here is delicious, ambered and intense, with touches of soft spices and a prominent yet non-overpowering clove. The carnation blends perfectly with the rose in a smoky, resinous symbiosis, subtly woody, both flowers well-defined without interference, as, having fewer notes than others of its style, its full composition is appreciated. What stands out most is the quality of its notes and how well they are orchestrated. It lasts a very long time, needs careful application, and over time becomes more powdery. A vintage gem.
