  1. I’ve been wanting to talk about Proibito for ages; I was gifted a sample and I’m absolutely smitten. I ended up decanting it for you all: 130€ for 30ml sounds pricey, but it lasts a lifetime and is simply incredible. Upon application, it’s very citrusy and spicy, like freshly ground pepper. That top note projects strongly for 2 hours or more, at a moderate-to-high intensity; people notice it but aren’t suffocated. Then the citrus fades, leaving an incredibly balanced blend of amber, incense, and woods. There’s a perfect harmony between the three notes: aromatic, smoky, and warm incense; resinous, slightly charred woods; and a heavy amber base that makes it exquisite. It’s incredibly complex, with earthy, dirty base notes typical of vetiver. Each note has its moment without overpowering the others. I wore it in October, for evening wear, with the full label on. Using about 6-8 sprays to finish the decant, I applied it at 8pm and, even a month later, my washed tie still held faint traces of that amber incense. Don’t save this for winter, autumn, or cool spring days; this amber can be intoxicating, deceiving you with its citrus opening before becoming heavy as it dries. In short, I can’t summarise something so complex; whatever I write will fall short. Get a discovery set and draw your own conclusions. But if you like it, you’ve hit the jackpot.
