Quorum Silver by Antonio Puig

I bought it due to the good reviews, the low price, and because I enjoy classic scents. I am satisfied and often lift my shirt collar to smell it. Curiously, the opening smells of old lemon with a hint of mould, but the perception is tolerable; after a few minutes, the scent becomes appealing. In short: a modern fougère with a well-defined citrus touch.

I do not recommend it to anyone. The smell is very forgettable and I find it too mature.

This affordable perfume puts many niche fragrances working with spiced woods to shame. The quality is impressive; at a price similar to Encre Noire (around $20 on offer), it is a find. The opening has the most authentic cedar I have ever smelled: bright, intense, like the inside of a freshly carved plank. Warm, fresh spices keep it vibrant, with crystallised ginger, floral lavender, and the best nutmeg I have tried. Pink pepper gives it a sparkly touch, and guaiac in the dry-down adds an extraordinary, semi-sweet, balsamic palo santo. The result is impactful: it starts with a refreshing hit and then becomes warm and comforting in one movement. It is delicious from start to finish. (Curiosity: the atomiser is incredible, it sprays a perfect mist, something you do not expect at this price). It is no surprise it was one of my favourites in 2024, despite having more expensive options. It is perfect for lifting spirits in the office and lasts all day. Chapeau.

Although I consider the Silver version ‘usable’, unlike its older brother which I would recommend only to people over 70, I believe here you get what you pay for. It is a cheap fragrance and, being unfair, it smells like one. It is what it is and no more. Recommended if you want to start in perfumery without spending much.

It smells of woods and varnish, like being inside a furniture shop. Original aroma, I have no similar scent in my collection. It could smell very strong to more conventional noses, but it is worth it for its vibe. It is for days and moderate climates; it loses charm at night, except on warm evenings. It is for casual use, without losing its serious male touch that is not here to play, even having an elegant facet. Performance with a sharp opening, evolution, projection, and trail, giving more than it is worth (almost a cheapy). Medium longevity on skin. It is totally different from its older sister Quorum or the Aqua; this Silver is more democratic in generational reach, but without losing its strong personality, nor is it a fruity fresh unisex type, it is far from that (the Aqua is the most wearable of the three if talking about mass tastes). It is appreciated that Puig still distributes it in South America at a laughable price. I would restock it, as I am going through it quickly this summer 2023. Edit: in its spicy, sharp woody facet, it moves towards the side of Bois Imperial, keeping quality distances between the two, without saying they are the same, by no means, but the Silver is very worthy for its segment. It is almost hidden and little mentioned, try it if you have the luck to access it.

With Quorum Silver at just €7 for 50ml, it is hard to smell better. It is ideal when temperatures drop below 18°C. It opens with cedar and a touch of lavender that smells of wet wood, followed by citrus and spices (I do not detect the cinnamon, and I like that). The dry-down has two phases: first gaïac wood, then just patchouli clinging to the skin after 12 hours. Nowadays, some perfumes do not even last an hour! Antonio Puig does the maths and comes out profitable at €15/100ml; it is honest business. If it were Loewe Solo Cedar, it would cost €60 and no one would complain. It reminds me of Azzaro Visit and follows the same path as Gucci Pour Homme or Comme des Garçons 2, but with a brushstroke of Agua Brava. If you like Agua Brava, you will certainly like this. It is very masculine, woody, perfect for the office or occasional outings, it does not bother anyone and smells frankly wonderful.

It is a very mature woody scent; it smells of varnished woods or being in a carpentry workshop with freshly cut wood. It smells good, but I cannot see myself using it; it feels too mature. I would not recommend it if you are between 18 and 25, unless you like mature aromas (it is not vintage, but it is the type of scent your uncle or father would wear). Of the three Quorum scents, the only one that is youthful and versatile for any age is Aqua Quorum.

Absolute madness! What a noble fragrance: good, cheap, a genius by Antonio Puig. It is citrusy, with an air of a gentleman’s barbershop… the dry-down is sublime. RECOMMENDED ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!

Thinking about it today brought this fragrance to mind. Here in Chile, those years I worked as a promoter for a Puig agency and was at its launch in 2005. Haha, I remember I did not even want to smell it; at 24, it seemed like something for old people, and as Bofifa says, it was strange to have a launch of a classic at that time. Reluctantly, I sprayed it on my hand and WOW SURPRISE!, it seemed exquisite. I immediately thought of a more formal or orderly wardrobe… and I usually wore the opposite, haha. But I have that memory that it was very good, very well made, delivering much more than it costs. It is worth having; I think it is one of those fragrances that always save you when you do not know what to wear. An excellent BBB.

It is a very strong scent (winter type), but with lavender, it becomes excellent for autumn. I recommend it if you want an excellent value scent that does not disappoint.

Very good. Smells very ‘Annick Menardo’: refined, classy, and without flashiness. It has cedar, florals, a spicy hint of ginger, something marine, spices, and lavender. The longevity is good, but the projection is weak; it stays close to the skin after two hours, although the dry-down is spectacular. It reminds me of Visit by Azzaro but softer and less incense-heavy. A discovery that for 10 euros, you don’t need to think twice about it. An 8.

Quorum Silver fits well as a spicy woody fragrance. It opens with herbal and citrus notes that last a couple of minutes before giving way to cedar, pepper, and nutmeg, which is what lingers. I find it versatile; although it is spicy, it is not heavy, ideal for spring and autumn or for the office. The longevity was good, around 10 hours, although it does not project much. It has an almost linear development, smells good, and is slightly synthetic, but for the price, you cannot ask for more; in fact, it surpasses more expensive fragrances. Puig could name it after one of its designers and sell it more dearly. In summary, it is not outstanding but fulfils for several scenarios and smells good.

I am reviewing a sample that still says ‘Puig’ on it. On the carton, the olfactory pyramid differs from Fragrantica’s. Top: artemisia, ginger, pink pepper, mandarin. Heart: cardamom, cinnamon, lavender, and cedar. Base: amber, guaiac, and musk (not patchouli). At the start, moderate trail with artemisia, ginger, mandarin, and soft pink pepper, a touch of cardamom. At five hours, I notice cedar and soft lavender. At eight hours, it reminds me of parts of Terre d’Hermès. At twelve hours, I perceive amber, cedar, and musk (not patchouli). I liked it but it did not blow my mind. It has a moderate trail dropping to soft, and is more versatile than its sibling Quorum. It can reach 12 hours with some over-application. It becomes pleasant in intermediate seasons and daytime wear. If you need something non-invasive, it could be a good option.

A small disappointment since I bought a full 100ml bottle based on previous reviews, although for the price the fiasco is tiny. It opens quite pleasantly with herbal, citrus, and lavender notes. It lasts 5-10 minutes. The problem is the dry-down: the fragrance becomes very flat, the nutmeg and wood notes feel shallow, unrealistic, and very synthetic, and the whole turns monotonous, even becoming unpleasant. I confess that the ‘cedar’ notes in many fragrances (it happens to me with Solo Loewe Cedar) seem too artificial to me, and even non-existent. It costs very little, sure, but according to that, ‘Nenuco’ in family format smells better and comes out much cheaper. xD Review of a bottle bought in 2017. I found this cologne in a small town shop on a trip. The bottle design caught my attention. I looked for info on Fragrantica and, due to the good reviews, I bought it for 15.90 euros. Once in the room and upon testing it, I knew I had made a good blind buy. The quality-power-price ratio is overwhelming. It is like a lighter version of Boss Bottle, and by lighter I mean more aquatic than watery. I think it is ideal for the office or uniformed work. Perfect for spring and autumn.
