Rus by Северное сияние is a Leather-family fragrance for Women and Men. Dating from the 1960s, it retains a firmly old-school character.
Leather, aldehydes, thyme and bergamot open the composition, leading to a rose-centred, spiced heart before a base of sandalwood, musk, woody notes and amber.
Up top, leather meets aldehydes, freshened by thyme and bergamot. The opening feels tidy and aromatic, almost soapy, with the leather note already to the fore.
The middle keeps the leather theme while adding rose, ylang-ylang, cardamom, vanilla and honey. Here the fragrance turns at its most rounded, floral with a mellow, honeyed sweetness.
Underneath, sandalwood, musk, woody notes and amber give a dry, cosseting foundation that draws out the woody-musk aspects of the leather.
Taken together, it comes across as woody and powdery, with warm spicy, rose, aromatic and aldehydic facets. Faint animalic traces, yellow blossom and musk lend further depth without displacing the leather.
