Tonka Kumaru by Atelier Materi is an oriental-vanilla olfactory family creation, designed for men and women. This new fragrance, launched in 2026, has been signed by nose Celine Perdriel. Its olfactive structure unfolds with a vibrant top note of bitter almond, cardamom and bergamot; a warm, textured heart composed of barley (malt), cedar and hay; and a sweet, enveloping base of tonka bean, vanilla and amber.

A real find from Materi that I tried with an official sample and absolutely loved it. It’s an exquisite fragrance, with the key word being ‘buttery’: it smells of tonka bean and almond cream. It’s super creamy, almost enclosed; more than a liquid perfume, it feels like slathering tonka and almond butter on your skin. In its mid-notes, there’s an inexplicable air, like summer with argan or cocoa butter creams, sometimes even resembling warm wax on the body. By the end, it settles into something more intimate and vanilla-led. On first impression, the performance didn’t seem great, but I’ll keep testing it.
