  1. A very good product for boosting fragrances that don’t last long. In my experience, both at the office and out, it makes a positive difference in projection, longevity and compliments. Of course, you need to match it well; with this Night, woods, leathers and amber notes work perfectly. Those who say it’s just smoke, I think haven’t tried it or don’t understand layering. My only gripe is the price; if it were between £30 and £40, it would be a total hit.

After trying it with all kinds of perfumes, I must say my expectations, though always low in perfumery, were higher. On my skin, I notice a slight, expected change, with nothing negative, thinking of intentional layering. Tests with Xponential Day and Night alongside Naxos, Guilty Absolute, Habdan and The Voice of the Snake… each has its own character and fixative. To reduce subjectivity, I tested on both arms comparing with and without the boost, in different climates, times of day and skin states. The first thing I noticed was an increase in longevity, though not substantial: about 40 extra minutes in the best cases before fading to skin. The scent difference is slight, more noticeable with Night than Day. Regarding the price, if the performance is similar to mine and the base fragrance is worth it, I think it justifies the purchase, especially with cheap perfumes where reapplying is more cost-effective. The best thing is not to buy blindly; every skin is different. I recommend testing in a decant before spending. I’ll publish the same for Day and Night as the experience is identical.

Agreeing with Hervi, here they only want to sell smoke. I’ve used it in a thousand ways: day, night, before and after perfume, in layering, on clothes, wool and cotton… The truth is, it comes out with a strong alcohol smell at first, then smells delicious, but it doesn’t last more than half an hour. I’m not anosmic; I perceive Iso E Super, white musk, methyl jasmonate and ambroxan, which last hours, but this Xponential Night fades quickly. I’ve given up, will try again and nothing. As I said, it lasts at most half an hour. I’ve not only tested it on myself but with my daughter and visitors, and my opinion doesn’t change: it smells great but for very little time and fades to skin. I won’t buy it again.

  4. Sometimes returning to the basics without pretence is the best and kindest thing for the environment. The key lies in the execution and the quality of raw materials in Xponential Boost Night really shows. Worn alone, it’s perceived better by women than the Day version (which they also like, but it isn’t pretentious); here the ‘playing around’ is noticeable. I haven’t tried layerings yet. But if you wear it on its own, it works very well. Also, I believe it can be used in warm climates; it’s not dense or heavy if you mind your sprays.
