I tested two batches and the difference is staggering: in my bottle, the spices dominate and overpower the honey sweetness, whereas in a friend’s decant, it’s all soft, silky honey with tea in the background and spices playing second fiddle. Same notes, opposite results.
At first, it smells of robust black tea loaded with cumin, cinnamon and saffron, with aromatic honey in the background that later rises in sweetness to become a proper honey Chai. It’s incredible how the honey makes the spices irresistible while the black tea takes charge, toning down the sweetness and giving a ‘dry’ sensation. Delicious and spicy, the honey here is sublime, aromatic and barely sweet. It’s not for those seeking cloying honey, but for those who want only you and whoever is with you to smell it. It works in any season, but the price and its low longevity (4 hours) are the only drawbacks.
