It’s complex, with an opening very much in Montale style: medicinal and strong, but justified by its oil concentration. The oud is harsh, yet within seconds a clean, fresh rose emerges, remarkably natural and unlike anything the house produces today; this one is authentic. Then a patchouli appears, making it 100% vintage, alongside leather; later, saffron becomes noticeable but doesn’t dominate. It reminds me of the fragrances my grandmother brought from Paris in the 80s, from a perfumery in the Louvre district: rose, leather, and original macerated patchouli. Nothing cheap or random; it’s a masterpiece, a before and after for Pierre Montale. I bought a bottle from 2016 and now I understand why followers say the house is no longer what it used to be; that rose and those ingredients feel natural and masterful. Bear in mind, it’s not for everyone, certainly not for men with ‘macho express’ tastes, nor for young people seeking fruity or citrus notes, without wishing to offend. It’s a treasure for those with a special, exclusive taste. It transports me straight to the Middle East, to Saudi Arabia.
