It’s an absolute gem I bought after trying a decant and instantly falling in love. Upon opening, it smells herbal, with fresh Ylang Ylang and a very prominent almond-heliotrope, all wrapped in the balanced sweetness of marzipan and the freshness of a blooming orchid. There are bursts of young roses, with a creamy, powdery sandalwood base and a dense, comforting touch of myrrh. It’s unisex with a feminine leaning, an exotic floral suitable for all weather except extreme heat. If you don’t like Ylang or orchids, don’t buy it blindly. Compared to Initio’s Psychedelic Love, they share about 80% of the notes but express themselves differently: Azalea is sweeter and more herbal, whereas PL is more balanced and less potent. It’s nothing like Tom Ford’s Purple Orchid, which takes a different path and doesn’t fully convince me, nor Valentina Myrrh Assoluto by Valentino, where the myrrh resin stands out much more; it’s delicious but on my skin it lasts less than four hours.
