Hunter Killer Man by Armaf

I bought it seeking an alternative to Mancera’s Red Tobacco, as Arabic fragrances have raised the bar even for niche houses, and my obsession with tobacco made me drop that one to vary my daily routine. From Armaf’s Killer: at first, it was odd, perhaps because it was the first splash and came out half-alcoholic with a spicy touch of pepper and green apple, which I didn’t like and startled me a bit. That apple gave a citrusy touch at the start that reminded me of Light Blue from D&G or a K from the same house, so much so I thought: ‘uff, this is good for summer!’ But it didn’t stop there; the apple stayed linear throughout the dry-down and mixed with the patchouli until it felt somewhat feminine, a bit like Vie Est Belle, but the amber and vanilla gradually transformed it into something soft, almost soapy, like those creams your mother uses, perhaps I confused the nut, to finally reveal a touch of tobacco, soft pipe tobacco, well-executed, refined, nearly imperceptible. That gives it robustness and marks it as masculine. I’m a tobacco fanatic; if not for Toscano Leather being what suits me best, Mancera would take the prize, and this fragrance doesn’t resemble it much. It has its nuances, some reverse notes that remind you of it, or perhaps if you’ve only heard of it a couple of times, you might confuse it, but in my opinion, it lacks a more marked tobacco to feel like a strong and elegant fragrance, yet it doesn’t stop being a very good option. I see its dry-down as flexible, suitable for warm and fresh days, perfect for daily wear, and at its laughable price, it’s more than wearable. I’ll let it oxidise for a while to see if it brings out more character. Overall, for people under 30, I see it as splendid; young women will love it, as I said, during its evolution it recalls some prestigious, highly sought-after perfumes in the youthful world. I’ll edit later on how the longevity fares. I’ve worn it for about 5 hours and it’s already at its final notes, but throwing out bursts occasionally. In projection, being kind, with 4 or 5 sprays, it projects very well for the first 2 hours, then drops to something more personal, but if someone is by your side, they’ll perceive it. Aroma: 9/10, Projection: 7/10, Longevity: 9/10, Price: 10/10. Edit: I let it macerate for about 3 weeks, and truth be told, it improved quite a bit; the tobacco is much more noticeable and has more resemblance to Red Tobacco Intense than the original, which truly surprised me. It’s lasting longer than budgeted, and I think I’ll buy another bottle; it’s excellent if you like tobacco and spices, and in terms of longevity, it’s already been 7 hours and remains steady.

It reminds me of Natura, like Hommem Tato or Essence Ato, due to that strong pepper note, though without the sneezing fit the others give. I don’t detect a resemblance to Red Tobacco. It’s spiced, with lavender, woods, and amber, closing with vetiver. Neither at the start nor at the end (8 hours) does it smell of tobacco, unless very subtly. Good aroma. Moderate trail; it clings to clothes for over 10 hours. On skin, I’ve worn it for 2 hours and still detect it on my neck, which is rare as fragrances don’t usually last long on me.
