I bought it blind because there were no testers in the store. The opening is a creamy pear thanks to the rice. A few minutes later, wood appears, a very soft sandalwood that gives it body without being anything masculine. It’s super feminine, nothing overpowering or pretentious. It’s perfect for daily wear, and I think on fresh days or in spring it will be a very delicate scent.

This is a conceptual fragrance, for personal enjoyment. It’s not meant to stand out in society; it’s so intimate that only you will smell it. If you appreciate olfactory art and don’t mind it being subtle, you’ll adore it. I bought the 100 ml bottle because the roll-on doesn’t allow me to enjoy it to the full extent. The opening smells of hot sake, the kind I drink before meals in Japan. Then the pear appears with a light sweetness, followed by rice which dominates the entire development, finishing with a soft sandalwood. The cereal note reminds me of Poppy & Barley by Jo Malone. It’s gourmand in the strict sense of edible ingredients, but nothing typical or sugary; it’s fresh and light. The trail is soft and lasts about 4-5 hours on skin, a bit longer on clothes. I wish it lasted longer, but given its Japanese essence, it shouldn’t be a bomb. I love it for sleeping, reading, or doing yoga; it puts me in a very zen state. Would I buy it again? Yes, despite the short duration and trail. Scent 9.5/10, Longevity 5/10, Sillage 4/10, Value 6.5/10, Versatility 4/10, Packaging 7.5/10. Yes.
A super intimate fragrance, almost conceptual, that only you will notice. It’s not for standing out in society, but for enjoying it if you’re passionate about olfactory art and don’t mind it being very subtle. I bought the 100 ml spray bottle because the roll-on, although cheap to try, doesn’t let me enjoy it to the full extent, especially knowing it’s such a subtle scent. I absolutely love it. I have to apply quite a lot, between 7 and 10 sprays, and it lasts over six hours with a good trail. It’s not overwhelming, but it’s easily noticeable at a metre. Every time I wear it, people ask what I’m using.

It works well for me. At first, it’s not subtle; rather, it’s quite strong, perhaps settling down after four hours. The opening smells of alcohol, but like sake. Then it’s as if you’ve stepped into an old wooden shop where fresh mochi is made every day. It smells exactly like mochi, spot on.
My favourite, literally the most unique perfume I own. It’s strong yet at the same time stuck-in and light. I love it for sunny days but not extremely hot ones; definitely a scent that others perceive for the first few minutes, then it leaves only a personal trail. It lasts quite well on me considering it lacks characteristic high-fixation notes. I think the name is ideal; it transports me to a beautiful place every time I smell it.
I’m fascinated by it; I just wish it lasted and projected more. The scent is very zen and doesn’t remind me of anything I’ve heard before. I’m not sure if it really smells like mochi; I’ve only tried strawberry ones 🤷🏼♀️

It’s an utterly charming perfume; Zara did well to bring it back. The aroma is very clean, fresh, and has a velvet touch that I adore. For summer, it seems ideal. Very comfy vibes. The problem is it lasts a maximum of two hours on skin; I’m using it at home because I’ve tried wearing it out and feel like I need to reapply constantly because I can’t smell it on myself.
It really smells like mochi. It’s a soft and sweet aroma; the only issue for me is that it doesn’t last long or project much, but it’s a very pleasant smell, perfect for quiet days.
This review is for the fragrance relaunched in the summer of 2025. I must say it’s a scent I was dying to have in my collection, as the rice note is one of my favourites. The presentation looks very nice: the box illustration, the story inspired by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrino, the bottle, and the price of £15.95 for 100ml seems like a bargain. The fragrance is minimalist; I can detect the three declared notes. I smell a very natural, unripe, non-jammy pear, the rice gives a sensation of rice powder and glutinous rice, and the sandalwood, though very subtle, has a faint sake impression at the opening, but for me, it recalls a mochi, an original mochi, not those modern, super-sweet mochi, but those with little sugar, even almost savoury. It lasts 2-3 hours on my skin, it’s a very subtle fragrance with a certain clean and comforting feel. I see it as ideal for yoga, pilates, or relaxing at home. Personal trail, zero projection, but I love it.
This review is for the summer relaunch of 2025. It was a fragrance I wanted to own because the rice note is one of my favourites. The presentation seems gorgeous: the box illustration, the perfumer Fabrice Pellegrino’s story, the bottle, and the price of €15.95 for 100 ml are a bargain. The perfume is minimalist: I notice the pear very naturally, neither overripe nor in syrup; the rice gives a sensation of powder or glutinous rice; and the sandalwood, although light, has a sake recall at the start but reminds me of an original mochi, not the modern super-sweet ones, but those with little sugar, almost salty. It lasts 2-3 hours on my skin, it’s very subtle, with a clean and comforting sensation. I see it as ideal for yoga, pilates, or relaxing at home. Sillage and projection are non-existent, but I love it.
I think it’s a perfect perfume for daily wear, any time of year. It’s simple, soft, and sweet, without complications. I’ve bought a tester jar, but I’m weighing up the idea of buying two or three more to have as backups in case they don’t restock it in the store 🥲. It’s that typical scent you wear for yourself, as it has no trail, yet I can definitely smell it on myself. It’s a little scent that envelops you and feels very cosy.
It’s a clean, comfy scent, just for you since it leaves no trail. It smells like fabric softener with a touch of rice pudding.
I bought it a month ago; initially, the longevity seemed weak and the projection moderate. Now that it has oxygenated and aged, it lasts much longer on my skin, with a deeper yet still moderate projection that is more noticeable. As for the scent: it’s unique, clean, soft, sweet but not cloying, discretely powdery, and very comfortable for autumn, winter, and spring. I didn’t know it in 2020, but this 2025 launch feels like a total addition to my new collection.
Mochi Atelier in Tokyo is a lovely, coquettish, and comforting fragrance. At first, it smells like alcoholic rice wine, such as sake, with a super refreshing and slightly sweet pear, as if you’d cut a firm, unripe pear. The sake scent fades quickly, and over time, the fragrance settles into a stuck-in-the-pear aroma that is incredibly cute and delicate. In my opinion, it’s a very original scent. It lacks significant projection and longevity, staying close to the skin after 30 minutes for about 3-4 hours more. I’ve been told it smells like the hay-dried laundry soap used to perfume clothes in drawers, likely due to the intense rice note at the start. It’s highly recommended if you like non-flashy, comforting fragrances. I’ll buy it again when it returns to Zara.
Soft and clean, but anyone who gets close will sense that tenderness. I’d wear it if I’m staying home or dealing with paperwork in crowded places, just to smell like myself.
