First impression was very cold. Either the others I tried ate it up, it just doesn’t suit my skin, or something is off. It barely smells on me.
I head to the shop to test blending Aqua Allegoria Rosa Palissandro with Rosa Forte; I have a feeling this layering will yield something interesting.
Ugh, a very strange fragrance. It feels poorly constructed. It’s one of those that is simply a ‘meh’. It is a woody citrus that becomes slightly dirty, totally unisex and fairly passable. It lacks the best longevity or the best scent. I don’t smell yuzu or oud in it; sometimes it smells like sweat. Guerlain has other better Allegorias, to be honest.
I was absolutely blown away by the opening because I adore yuzu. At first, it is a subtly arranged yuzu with an oud lurking in the wings. But as it dries, the oud takes control and creates a rather alien blend, featuring a pea-green note that reminded me of Molinard’s Patchouli. It is intoxicating, sumptuous, and refreshingly ambiguous.
I’ve become utterly obsessed with the opening because I absolutely love the yuzu. At first, it’s a subtly arranged yuzu with an oud working behind the scenes. However, as it dries, the oud takes centre stage, creating a rather Martian blend that reminds me, at times, of Molinard’s patchouli. It’s intoxicating, sumptuous, and refreshingly ambiguous.
Smells fantastic with excellent trail and projection, perhaps one of Guerlain’s most potent fragrances in the Aqua Allegoria line. You put it on and feel it all day; four sprays fill the entire room, even after a shower. It is very woody and citrusy, reminiscent of Jo Malone’s Oud & Bergamot, which is a delight. I see it as more suitable for spring and autumn than summer because it is so strong and could be overwhelming in the heat. It is among the best Guerlain has produced recently, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work for me: no matter how hard I try, I don’t like it because it smells like a cleaning product (I don’t know which one) and I can’t connect with it. I suppose the yuzu note is to blame, as it tends to make the fragrance bitter.
