I agree with the comparison to Imagination, but Platine Privé is what that fragrance never could be, and far more accessible (though it’s no longer available). Delphine and Thierry are geniuses; they turn everything into gold. Their aromatic quality is unmatched, something that expensive, pretentious brands like LV wouldn’t dare to equal.

Voicing an opinion is futile because you can’t find it anywhere. I met it months ago as a gift when buying another perfume: a small decanter that included this scent. I fell in love quickly. Although it’s described as citrusy, I perceived it as almond-forward; mixed with almond, it’s an addictive combination. I’ve grown tired of searching and accept that it’s gone; I hope Guerlain relaunches it someday. Worth every penny.

I’m still getting to know and warming up to it. The scent reminds me of a well-known doctor in my area; I hadn’t smelled anything from the line before, and it immediately sounded like him. The quality is evident. EDIT 06/04/2025: A fantastic fragrance, a grapefruit and a rich almond, as I said before, the quality shows. It’s elegant yet perfect for everyday wear. Hard to come by; I bought mine from Juleriaque in Argentina, which had stock until recently, but now it’s gone. If you can find it, go for it; highly recommended.

I own Ideal Cologne and it’s identical, perhaps with a slightly softer dry-down… but if tested separately, they are the same. Let me say this is a masterpiece; for me, one of the best citrus scents; that touch of almond gives it excellent creaminess… lasting 6 to 7 hours.

Delicious and refined. I find a certain similarity to Louis Vuitton’s Imagination.

Fresh and elegant, yet uncomplicated: it’s the ideal version to carry the L’homme Idéal DNA through hot summer days. Although I liked it, I didn’t buy it as I still have the Cool from the same line, which I adore more for its mint note that makes it super refreshing. That said, I don’t rule out buying it when my Cool bottle runs out, as it seems to have been discontinued.

L’Homme Idéal Platine Privé by Guerlain. It is a masculine fragrance, but in such an elegant and subtle way that it is extremely seductive, noble, and sophisticated. It resembles the Cologne by 85%, but to my nose, Platine Privé is fresher, creamier, and slightly aldehydic and sweet, whereas the Cologne is more citrusy, creamy, green, and woody. For those who say it smells like LV Imagination, it doesn’t remind me of it… yes, in the opening it has that DNA, but after the first 5 minutes that sensation disappears and we are left with a perfume very similar to the previous flanker (Cologne), but fresher and less citrusy. Platine Privé is my favourite for hot climates alongside this house’s Cologne: it’s that fragrance that fills you with energy and boosts self-esteem. Upon application, you feel it is sparkling, creamy, fresh, and masculine, adding a delicate, daring, and intimate touch to this beautiful Guerlain composition.

L’homme Idéal Platine Privé by Guerlain. It’s a men’s fragrance, yet so elegant and subtle that it’s extremely seductive, noble, and sophisticated. It’s about 85% similar to the Cologne, but to my nose, Platine Privé is fresher, creamier, with a sweet and talc-like touch, whereas the Cologne is more citrusy, green, and woody. For those who say it smells like LV’s Imagination, it didn’t happen to me; only in the first five minutes did I recall that DNA, but then it fades, leaving a scent very similar to the previous Cologne, just fresher and less citrusy. It’s my favourite for hot climates alongside the Cologne from this house: it’s that fragrance that fills you with energy and boosts your self-esteem when applied. It’s sparkling, creamy, fresh, and masculine, with a delicate, bold, and intimate touch that makes this Guerlain composition beautiful.

“The best of the L’homme Idéal line! An improved version of the classic Cologne. If you want compliments, you can’t be without it.

A marvel! The best perfume by Guerlain. Rich, rich, rich. If you see it on offer, don’t hesitate to buy it.

One of the richest scents I have ever smelled in my life.

It’s a modernised reissue, super collectible and numbered, so it doesn’t last long. It’s the ‘sophisticated’ version of the discontinued L’Homme Ideal Cologne (and it’s close to the Cool and Sport), which we must remember was spectacular with that almond-musk, fresh citrus and summery vibe. I find it a bit naughty and nocturnal. If you like the range or were a fan of the Cologne, you must get it. Go on, it’s a steal!

Fresh opening of grapefruit and white flowers… gradually, that typical almond note of the line takes over, wrapped in a fruity note similar to the L’Homme Ideal EDP… Exquisite.

Hello, today I’m here to review this beauty from Guerlain. I really love it; it’s a scent where the grapefruit has a prominent presence and as it dries down, the almond appears, the signature of the Ideal line. I own the complete collection and I say it’s worth it: for a collector, it’s worth the effort, it’s a delight, it resembles the Cologne but has its own nuances. It’s elegant, brings compliments and has quality. If you’re a fan of the brand, go and try it, you won’t regret it.

Available at John Lewis. A scent that distances itself from the quality of its siblings. It doesn’t add anything new to the collection, but it’s better to try it before spending the fortune it costs. Fresh, pleasant and long-lasting, but nothing new.

Don’t confuse it with the L’Homme Ideal Intense perfume from 2018, which has nothing to do with it. This Platine Privé 2023 is like mixing D&G Light Blue Forever (lots of grapefruit, ‘orange’ for some) with the citrus Cologne and 10% of the original EDT to keep that musky base. Fresh, summery, charming and with top-tier Guerlain quality. A beast of a scent? For me, with 100 perfumes, it’s a resounding no (I wouldn’t even buy it if it went mega-hype), but it could suit any other consumer perfectly. Note: it’s not for children.

Wonderful. It’s an opening scent with lots of grapefruit that moves into a very wearable neroli and almond, creamy and fresh. Perhaps the Cologne is more citrusy, with a bitter touch and much fresher. It truly smells incredible; it reminded me of Tygar for that explosive grapefruit opening that lasts two hours. Its performance is very good at 25°C. Unfortunately, Guerlain warned it was a ‘limited edition’ and as of October 2024, it’s almost impossible to find. Highly recommended 100%.

Marvel. I found a batch with lots of grapefruit that moves to a very wearable neroli and almond, something creamy and very fresh. Perhaps the Cologne is more citrusy, with a bitter touch and much fresher. It truly smells incredible. It reminded me of Tygar for that explosive grapefruit opening that lasts the first 2 hours (decreasing each time until giving way to the middle notes). Its performance is very good at temperatures above 25°C. Unfortunately, Guerlain warned it as a ‘limited edition’ and today in October 2024 it is almost impossible to get. Recommended 100%.

Personally, I would only buy it if you really miss the Cologne version, which, if I remember correctly, has already been discontinued despite being launched in 2015. It offers nothing new, groundbreaking or worth it in terms of performance or scent. I think this line is overexploited and deserves a break. As for performance, it’s not an argument in its favour either: barely five hours with heavy application and only two hours with some projection.

I felt brave enough to write this after trying it yesterday at a John Lewis. Starting from the fact that I haven’t been lucky enough to try the discontinued Cologne version, I can say it’s a more versatile version of the EDT, less sweet and more citrusy/fresh. I have the dry-down and it still retains its scent, but on the skin, it leaves me a bit cold on performance. The sales assistant sprayed it three times and after 4-5 hours, I could barely smell it even pressing my nose against it. Recommended for those who like the scent of the line. This one, without a doubt, will also delight you. Although, as you comment, the price is outrageous.

In reality, it’s a limited edition that isn’t even sold in physical stores. You can only buy it online at very high prices (125 euros). I think the summery COOL version has been discontinued too. A bit of an irreverent marketing move, to be honest.

I’ve been testing new releases and this was my only joy of the day. I had no great hopes, as the Ideal line has been reformulated so much that it’s ridiculous to buy bottles in official stores. But when I tested it, my mind travelled back to that discontinued Ideal Cologne, and over time, you see it’s even better: it evolves into an almond neroli that, without the freshness of Allure, makes a semi-sweet scent wearable in high temperatures. The price is disproportionate as always, but that doesn’t make it a worse perfume.

Tested at ECI and the truth is: for the average user, it’s identical to L’Homme Ideal Cologne. Don’t be foolish and pay a fortune on Wallapop; this is appearing everywhere and smells exactly the same.

L’Homme Ideal Platine Privé is fresh and aromatic. It opens with a very pleasant citrus note that quickly moves to that almond and floral base of the original without many surprises afterwards. Unlike the Cologne, here the citrus doesn’t last as long and the base is less musky. It’s the fresh version of the original Ideal: less sweet, without vanilla or tonka bean, with a woody touch that makes it super versatile (more so than the EDT). It goes all year round, but shines in heat, spring, summer, or autumn. Ideal for casual or semi-formal use. Performance is fair, around 7 hours with a regular trail. If you know the line, buy it blind; if not, try it, because if you like it, it’s a limited edition that won’t last.

Tested on skin, it gives me the sensation of being a discounted L’Homme Ideal EDT. At first, it smells much more citrusy, but that sensation lasts only 15-20 minutes; then comes the almond base of the original Ideal. Unlike Stelie, I do perceive it as creamy. More versatile than the EDT? Puff, perhaps, it might work in warm climates, but I don’t see it for extreme temperatures. Since I already have the Extreme, I’m seriously considering buying it, as it’s a scent I love. That said, when prices drop, because the ECI RRP is 127€ for 100ml, it’s crazy.

First impression on blotter: very, very similar to the Cologne. I no longer have the discontinued one to compare them side by side, but the sensation is almost identical, with the difference that here the neroli has more prominence and is perhaps slightly less creamy. I felt it had better performance. So far, all good news, the bad is the price…
