A pretty and cheap perfume now that it’s discontinued, but the downside is it doesn’t last long. It smells fresh, clean and welcoming, though it only lasts 3-4 hours.
A beautiful discontinued fragrance reminiscent of the famous LV Imagination, but with more pronounced orange and neroli notes from Guerlain (more so, yet still not the same). Clean and fresh aroma with moderate longevity. If you can find it at a good price, don’t hesitate to buy it.
This perfume is gorgeous… it bears a strong resemblance to the famous Louis Vuitton Imagination 🤙
A creamy, beautiful citrus fragrance, but with nothing special in terms of performance, typical of summer colognes. Longevity is average with low projection and sillage. Ideal for day or afternoon wear, whether in casual or formal work attire. It would be a gem if it lasted longer and projected better.
L’homme ideal Cologne (2015) is the first flanker in the line (2014): fresher and citrusy yet warm, without being icy. Notes of grapefruit, almond (the star), orange, bergamot and vetiver. It’s a lovely fragrance, well-balanced, powdery and sweet, making wearing it a pleasure. Pity it’s been discontinued, like so many other good perfumes.
I don’t understand why they discontinued this masterpiece. It’s a 10/10 powerhouse, citrusy, creamy and spectacularly talcum-scented. Lucky to find it in 2023 as it’s been out of production for years. I also own Platine Privé and it’s 95% similar, it just lacks that orange note. I use it on trips to create memorable moments. Longevity is good: projects for about 3 hours, maintains a bubble until 5-6 hours and fades to skin by 8-9 hours. Absolutely wonderful among my favourites.
@Bigthor_one, I’m not sure where you found that fragrance as it’s discontinued and hard to come by. Did you buy a bottle or is it just a sample?
Reading reviews is fine, but here I bit the bait. I had already smelled perfumes from the line and found them mature and incense-heavy, nothing for me. They say it’s similar to Allure Edition Blanche, but not even to the sole (at least in older batches). The opening is very powdery and smells of an older person, not an adult. The drydown is indeed a creamy lemon with the almond nuances of the line. If you like modern fragrances, get a decant first.
A couple of years ago, in the early hours of the morning, I decided to buy a summer perfume. Until then, I didn’t distinguish between seasons; I used Bvlgari Man in Black even in the height of summer. I treated myself to a citrusy scent for the summer season. I watched YouTube videos and it appeared in the top lists as a wonderful discontinued fragrance smelling of lemon tart with almonds. Living in the UK, I was lucky to find a 50 ml bottle at a good price, whereas on Spanish websites the prices were doubled. It’s a fragrance that starts with slightly medicinal citrus, an opening I don’t particularly like. Then I smell sprigs of neroli and at some point recall an old eau de cologne. Afterwards, the almond note appears, reminiscent of its original. Luckily, it improves in the drydown, where the sweetened citrus makes it increasingly creamy. Without a doubt, the drydown is the best. In short, it’s a hype: pleasant smell but not worth the price. Although it’s an acceptable mistake, I wouldn’t repeat it; it was an impulsive purchase. Now that I’m more into this, there are low-cost citrus options that wouldn’t envy it. Although it’s a pretty cologne, it doesn’t dazzle me because its initial phases don’t speak to me.
It’s a ‘quirky’ perfume: it smelled different in the sprayer than when applied. It evolves significantly over time. I didn’t like the opening much (couldn’t detect the citrus well), then it transformed into something slightly powdery and fresh. Longevity is good but projection is scarce. It has no resemblance to Allure Edition Blanche. It’s a good perfume for semi-formal or superior occasions.
Hello, I bought the 50ml version for around $30 due to the hype, and it is truly delicious, but it is one of those that stays in the cupboard for months. It has a citrus-almond aura, very stately and formal, nothing youthful. Forget that it is creamy as they say it resembles Chanel Allure Blanche; that is pure nonsense. The longevity is good, but the projection is terrible; you barely notice it if you are wearing a mask. In summary: a lovely scent, but test before buying.
A delight! It reminds me of the grapefruit note in Tygar by Bvlgari, which is another gem. The downside is that it is hard to find in Mexico and the price is through the roof, but if you can get your hands on it, buy it without hesitation.
I didn’t like the persistent bitterness that overpowers the almond. It is not the classic citrus cologne that I would have preferred. I gave it away.
I managed to get it for 70 euros, and what can I say, it has been worth it. It is a genuine gem, absolutely delicious. How can they stop making something like this? The notes that stand out most are the almond and bergamot, and it feels very creamy. I expected poor performance, but it has surprised me. It is on par with the original EDT. I arrived at the office and my colleague looked at me with an expression of astonishment, saying it was the best she had worn yet: exquisite.
For the occasional reader, this is just my experience. Imagine you wake up early to catch the first AVE train to Madrid; these are the white-collar days where you have to present a project. For those moments, L’Homme Ideal is the perfect complement. The train smells of haste, emails, hot coffees, and great expectations. The base of almond and neroli wrapped in citrus is everything you need. It is not invasive or loud; it smells of class, structured presentation, and satisfaction from a job well done. Brilliant, daytime, elegant yet approachable. It is a positive anchor to prove that waking up early today was worth it. Good luck, gentlemen!
Guerlain signifies mastery and good taste. When Jean Paul retired in 2010 and they chose Thierry Wasser, the task was difficult because the bar was set very high. In 2014, L’Homme Ideal was born, a masculine gourmand that was well received for conjuring the almond accord with intense freshness. A year later, the flanker ‘Cologne’ arrived, a perfect wonder for summer and almost all year round, maintaining that almond seal loaded with citrus (grapefruit, bergamot, orange) that create a beautiful accord which, to my nose, reminds of pure creamy lemon. The incredible thing is that the citrus notes are felt throughout the fragrance, something rare as they are usually volatile; they are never strident, they blend in harmony with the almond and persist until the dry down with musk and a non-earthly vetiver. In a market full of blues and ambroxan, Wasser got it right with this discontinued fragrance. Although it is not sparkling, it fulfils its refreshing function in the heat. The longevity is good, the projection moderate to low, but it gives bursts and creates a personal bubble.
Always wanting to smell this great fragrance, I knew I had to have something interesting, and the hype did not fail me. Today I have a sample, and to start with, it is not as mass-produced. It has citrus hints that make it fresh and wearable, like a breeze that takes you along without you realising. It is very clean and refined, and the sweet touch of the almond gives it a youthful and interesting character. It transports me to a frozen mountain; I think it should be worn with a white shirt to give it that crisp and present touch. Longevity is easily 6 to 8 hours on average. I recommend it totally; magnificent fragrance.

What a great perfume!
Clean and rich scent, creamy. The opening is slightly sharp, although the notes do not declare anise, to my nose it seemed there was something of that note alongside the declared almonds, creating a rich fusion as it dries. It brings me memories of Allure Homme from 1999. As it dries, it is a scent that is greatly enjoyed. I recommend it. It must be emphasised that it is not a piercing citrus; it is discreet and creamy, with a personal aura and projection, totally elegant. I find it a bit mature, for 30 years and above due to its classic side. I recommend testing it before buying blindly; good perfume, a pity it is discontinued.
Smells fantastic; those fine, dusty citrus notes are very elegant. The performance is low, lasting only a couple of hours on clothes, I think it lacks a note to have more presence. But it is good, worth having especially as it is already discontinued.
Delicious aroma. The opening reminds me a lot of Dior Homme Cologne: a well-pungent but very natural citrus. As it dries down it becomes creamier, like Paz E Humor or Allure Blanche (but without losing that typical acidity). In short, a delicious olfactory journey. Although for being from the Ideal line, I don’t feel any almond anywhere except in that creamy sensation (and I can’t isolate the note no matter how much I sniff). In performance it lives up to its name: it behaves like a cologne. It doesn’t last a sigh: 2 hours on skin, fading to nothing by the second. On clothes, 4 hours without trail. If you overuse it, you get 3 hours, no more. Disastrous performance. But given how cheap it is to get (since it’s discontinued and now I understand why), I don’t think the price-to-performance ratio is bad. I paid $20 for a 100ml bottle. A bargain. Do I like it? Yes. Why do I use it? For personal enjoyment at home on hot days, because no one is going to smell this even at 30 centimetres. I repeat, performance at the level of cheap high street perfumes, but with an aroma above the designer line. In short, very Guerlain: superlative but ephemeral. CORRECTION: Using it on hotter days (30 degrees) I got much better longevity: 5 hours with moderate projection and trail for the first 3 hours. That said, applying 7 or 8 sprays.
Guerlain L’homme Ideal Cologne. A Christmas hug. Here in the southern hemisphere, Christmas coincides with summer. The Ideal Man cologne is the synthesis of many things that are generated on these special days. Ideal, moreover, for facing the stifling heat of the humid pampas. I have resisted writing this review for a long time, as I am aware that I am talking about a perfume that generates many sighs, and not only out of love, but also of disappointment. Citrus, almond, musk and vetiver. Simple… complex. Its simplicity is its formula, its complexity is the magic. Citrus to the max, fresh and sparkling in the opening. It is truly a glory to wrap oneself in the first minutes of its lemony aura. But there is more. Because that magical opening quickly rises and mixes with a creamy almond, soft but perceptible. This gives the concept a touch of class that really fascinates me and clearly distinguishes it from other similar proposals. This almond-lemony DNA is sustained on a musky base, subtly sweet, seductive and charming. There is vetiver, yes, and although its role is intended to provide support, when the magic and charm finally fade, the last earthy nuances are perceived very close to the skin, closing and rounding off the composition. Its performance is discreet. I admit I would love it to last a couple of hours more. The projection is very short, although it has shown me that it is one of those that leaves a trail. On my skin, I must confess it alternates durations between 5 and 7 hours, but very close to the skin from the third and fourth hour onwards. Its aroma is so delicious that I have learned to value it for what it generates in me every time I use it, without thinking about how many hours it will accompany me. Perhaps thinking of this fragrance and its connection to Christmas may not be the best comparison. Because Christmas is a mix of many sensations. Joy, sometimes sadness. It is a moment to remember, to become a child again. To embrace, to fill the soul. Christmas is just another day, but a day full of simplicity, a day where everyone seeks to return to the everyday: a kiss, an embrace, a smile, the joy of a child… a day where everyone longs for happiness. Christmas is just another day, simple, mundane, but full of magic. Magic that unfortunately lasts very little… but it is forever. Just like L’homme Ideal Cologne.
My mother loves lemon, mainly for cooking. I remember some cake, but above all the homemade yoghurts she used to make. This perfume reminds me of the creaminess and freshness of those spoonfuls. The citrus opening dominated by this yellow fruit gives you a boost and vitality. It is the fragrance a Monday needs. Despite its components and the prominence of the almond in the evolution, despite making you want to eat it, it is not gourmand in any case. However, it is delicious and edible. The citrus opening, the characteristic creaminess of the almond from the line and the strength and sensuality of the musk form an accord to which it is impossible to resist. Pity that there are few units left of this virtuous discontinued composition. Versatile, clean, attractive, of excellent duration and projection, it causes a certain olfactory fatigue that can deceive the wearer. At least in my experience. Best regards, fragrance lovers.
The almond-tonka accord of the original is still here and is very pleasant combined with the citrus. But as it dries down a murky musk rises which spoils the result a bit. So it’s not bad but I don’t think it’s any wonder. Medium performance.
Absolute marvel.
I bought it blindly due to the hype and ended up giving it away a few days later. The truth is I don’t understand how it is so overrated. In the opening you feel a well-pungent citrus similar to L’Eau d’Issey which descends with the minutes and settles into an old talcum, creamy and lemony smell. It ends up giving me disgust, something that hadn’t happened to me with any fragrance. P/S: I love the L’homme Ideal EDT and I can assure you they are absolutely nothing alike.
In my opinion, this is a unisex scent: the masculinity of the vetiver and pink pepper, on the other hand the femininity of the almond. I think it smells good, although it’s not the big thing. Its performance in general is good when dry, ideal for summer, hot days and office because it is not invasive and its aroma is well accepted by those around you, but if you are looking for a fragrance for an alpha male this is not the most viable option. P/S: personal opinion and experience.
Marvelous fresh, clean, energetic, creamy fragrance. Very versatile. A delight. I recommend it. It lasts between 6 to 8 hours for me, good duration for a fresh fragrance.
I don’t understand how there are people who don’t like this perfume, which is truly a beauty.
