Barber Note by Darkbeat Parfums

I’m not sure if this will be Darkbeat’s Magnum Opus, but what happens in this fragrance (which tells a story) is of an extremely high level. The olfactory narrative takes us to a barbershop, as its name suggests. It opens fresh, green, and aldehydic, and I don’t know if it’s suggestion, but I perceive it from the very first moment as not just refreshing, but hydrating. It gives me a sensation of hydration. It’s beastly. To continue evolving without losing coherence, a very fresh, invigorating lavender stands out, before settling into a final dry-down with an animalic, mossy facet and a suede treated in a brilliant way. It remains, with all due respect, what was described at the beginning: refreshing, but in a hydrating sense. I struggle even to describe it. With correct projection and better longevity, I would avoid using it on very hot days as, in my case, it can become overwhelming. Occasions, all. I’ve been wearing it for barely 24 hours and I already know this is top-tier quality. It gives a classic freshness from the first spray and so on until the very end. Beyond the menthol, I can’t break down the blend much further, but the ingredients are first-rate and they put a smile on your face. Ideal for those seeking barbershop perfumes or fougères.

I’ve had the good fortune to try this Darkbeat perfume, Barber Note, and the truth is I liked it a lot. This is a good start. I don’t understand much; I simply let myself be carried away by the senses of my olfactory nerves when smelling a perfume. The notes are so well balanced that the leather, which is included and isn’t one of my preferred notes, doesn’t bother me at all. On the contrary. In the dry-down, I feel animal and spicy notes when smelling this perfume, and that combination I like. When applied in its opening, it reminded me a bit of YSL’s Kouros or Chanel’s Antaeus, that slightly dirty touch, but which is at the same time very pleasant to the olfactory sense. In the dry-down stage, it reminded me something of Cartier’s Declaration. I note perfectly the moss, which stays there throughout the life of the perfume, and also a softer and at the same time slightly shy floral note. In short, a very well-crafted perfume and made to be enjoyed.

This proposal has captivated me thanks to its aroma which recalls the peculiar atmosphere of the barbershop, with a really powerful opening of aldehydes, citrus, and mint that envelop and overwhelm you, creating a unique and very natural atmosphere. The base of this fragrance is intense and persistent; green and floral notes combine with sandalwood and cedarwood, nuanced by patchouli, musk, and moss. The final effect, in my case, is a total and complete sensory well-being. Curiously, I don’t know if due to the combination of ingredients, I perceive a slightly aniseed touch that doesn’t clash at all and exalts this perfume, which turns out to be not merely a handiwork, but a coordination between mind and body, a union between hand and thought in which Jose Manuel acts as a perfumer of old who measured himself with attention to detail, succeeding in giving life to memories of the past by creating a masculine fragrance that encloses in its drops the beauty and secret of the purest craftsmanship.
