Descripción
Beau de Jour by Tom Ford is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, the nose behind this composition is Antoine Maisondieu. The top notes reveal lavender and lavender extract; the heart unfolds oakmoss, rosemary, mint, geranium, and basil; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with patchouli and amber.

It’s true it bears a strong resemblance to Yves Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche. It’s exquisite, very French, very aromatic with lavender and moss in all their glory. A slight mentholated sweetness gives it a modern touch, but always in the background is that rich fougère air, clean, fresh, and soapy that has captivated me. On my skin, Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood Intense didn’t work for me: the first turned sour, solvent-like, and raw leather, while the second smelled of urine and almost cat faeces; even after 40 minutes they were unbearable. But I loved this Beau de Jour from the very moment until it faded on my skin after 8 to 10 hours. Another Tom Ford I adored is Italian Cypress, discontinued, and the new edition with the gold plaque is the same liquid but nearly double the price and also scarce. Well, the Tom Ford guys know which ones are the best; it’s curious that for Beau de Jour and Italian Cypress they come back saying “we don’t have it at the moment”. Always try a perfume of this price and such “peculiar” characteristics before buying. Hugs.
A few days ago I bought this gem from a Facebook friend who sells Tom Ford fragrances; he had it brand new for my birthday as a self-gift because he knew it was discontinued, even though it had only been on the market for a few months. What a pity Tom Ford killed such a well-smelling perfume so quickly, leaving others that don’t deserve it still relevant. I managed to get my 50ml bottle for a price around $125. Today is my birthday and I’m launching it in big style: I sprayed 10 times and in almost every congratulatory hug, people complimented my perfume. Happiness bottled. What a lovely gift, what a desire to keep going like this!
It’s a rather pleasant perfume; lavender stands out a lot and it has a smoky touch. It smells very masculine and I get the feeling I’ve smelled something almost identical more than ten years ago. My issue is that, being subjective, it suits a gentleman aged thirty to fifty, not a lad in his twenties like me. Still, it’s quite good; I’d recommend it for the age I mentioned.
Fougères aren’t for everyone; they’re traditionally male scents for a certain age, and if not done right, you smell old and get scolded. But Creed’s Bois de Portugal gets it perfect: it keeps the masculine soul without seeming outdated. Jovoy’s Incident Diplomatique is its modern version, while Roja Dove’s Oligarch is another league entirely. They’re very different: Roja Dove is pure elegance, Tom Ford is total seduction. It’s a lavender and mint scent that gives a clean impression, with a balsamic, almost sweet touch that makes it very attractive. The rest of the notes sound like a fougère base so you know what it is. It reminds me of when, as a child, I went to the cinema and the hall’s air freshener mixed with my father’s cologne beside me. Elegance, cleanliness, everything delivered: Beau de Jour is magnificent.
Look, let’s be clear: the Signature and Privet collections are exactly the same, with Privet just charging a fortune for nothing. Absurd.
