Valentino Uomo Born in Roma by Valentino is a woody-spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by Antoine Maisondieu and Guillaume Flavigny. Pity its longevity 🙁 There’s a Maison Alhambra perfume, Victorioso Myth, that I find quite similar. The difference is that Valentino has a slight strawberry scent, but otherwise it aligns due to its salty and mineral notes. It’s not very masculine, especially if you use daily classics, but women love it. If you’re looking to please women… there’s no doubt.
It might not be my favourite in the line, but I like it. Although perhaps not enough to buy it. It’s fresh, clean, with that mineral feel. It gives the sensation of a cologne for an adult who has just stepped out of the daily grind and wants to feel comfortable and refreshed. It’s not invasive or heavy, but rather versatile and relaxed. It reminds me a bit of Nautica Voyage, with that aquatic vibe and easy-to-wear character. Ideal for everyday wear, but not enough to fully convince me.
Great everyday perfume. Although it’s undeniable that it’s similar to Invictus, it takes a different path: here it becomes more mineral, cold, with that metallic and fresh vibe, not as chicoloso as Invictus. Quite youthful but perfectly usable by someone up to 35 without issue. The longevity is average, neither very good nor bad. It’s earned me many compliments, even at a fast-food place where the chef asked about it and took a photo. In conclusion, very nice for everyday wear if you want something easy to like but without going for the basics of Invictus. Scent: 8/10, Longevity: 7/10, Projection: 8/10, Price: around 2,000 MXN. Recommended.
I think it was the sample they gave me. It wasn’t what I expected; it’s excellent, but I think its price and scent are more suited to younger people. At 34 or 35, I don’t like things too fresh, too sweet, or too mature. It almost fits my taste but is quite childish, although not bad, just the price. I wouldn’t buy it, and if others are similar, neither would I. But I still have to try the Coral and Intense.
Tested on skin and paper. A sweet, fairly conventional youthful scent. The violet, which is in fashion, dominates at first and in the dry-down. The sage gives it cleanliness, and the ginger adds a teenage/playful touch. The vetiver gradually emerges during the dry-down, becoming the dominant note at the end. It doesn’t smell bad, but it doesn’t quite convince me. As with many, the opening is too sweet and leans towards unisex/feminine, while the dry-down becomes more sober and masculine.
The Born In Roma profile is fresh and attractive, ideal for everyday wear, with good performance. Although it has a youthful character, it’s a solid and reliable option for those seeking something for daily use that performs and pleases those around you. It might seem pricey for a ‘daily’, but it’s very pleasant and versatile. I think everyone should try it and draw their own conclusions.
My favourite summer scent: Acqua di Gio Profondo EDP, YSL EDT, and this Valentino Born in Roma EDT are competing neck and neck. I’ll keep testing it, but I think it’ll become a perfume I use. Note: it doesn’t turn heads, but it’s very pleasant, always present but soft—perfectly soft for everyday wear. Writing this after two weeks: the 100ml bottle is halfway gone because it’s so enjoyable for regular use. As it doesn’t project and lasts long enough, I have to apply more sprays than usual and reapply once or twice during the day. It’s the type of fragrance that suits a casual signature scent. Writing a month later, I understand the hype: it’s not spectacular, but it’s very much liked for everyday wear. Quickly became my second favourite after ADG Profondo, which is my signature.
Opening is a bomb, which is why I bought it, but it fades quickly. Eventually, it turns into that burnt Invictus that’s everywhere, just with more body and a salty touch. Projects well for the first hour and a half, then stays in your personal bubble. Honestly, it’s not worth the fortune if there are other options with that DNA. The only thing saving it is the bottle; it’s gorgeous and collection-worthy.
I bought it and found it excessively salty, nothing like the Intense. No one liked it; they preferred even the Stronger by Armani. I gave it to my dad, and it’s not too bad as an office scent. 5/10. PS: My dad hasn’t bought it again, haha.
Smells like car air freshener… Little threes
A fresh, mineral, and vibrant opening that awakens with a spark of salt, violet leaves, and an ozonic accord reminiscent of humid air after a summer storm. The introduction is clean, modern, and has an unmistakable urban energy, marked by that salty and aquatic character that evokes a walk through the city at dawn. The heart reveals an unexpected spicy twist: ginger adds piquancy and dynamism, while sage provides a herbal and refined balance. As it settles, vetiver emerges with its dry and smoky nuance, embraced by a woody base that adds depth without becoming dense. This composition represents a contemporary attitude: free, slightly provocative, yet rooted in classics. It’s ideal for those who embrace the new without forgetting what defines them. Its duality between freshness and warmth makes it perfect for young creatives, elegant non-conformists, and urban spirits with one foot in tradition and the other in the future. If it were music, it would be the Lento from Respighi’s Symphony No. 1: melancholic, sober, and textured like an ancient stone. In jazz, it recalls the Mediterranean lyricism of Enrico Rava, where every note floats like mist over the Tiber. And if it had a colour, it would be travertine green: fresh, earthy, and sophisticatedly Roman.
I thought it was an Invictus clone, but it’s not. It might remind you of that chicoloso aroma, but beyond that, anything with ambroxan recalls Dior Sauvage. It’s floral, making it unisex, but well-balanced with metallic and salty notes (not marine like Invictus, which I prefer). Overall, it smells better than Valentino. I’ve seen complaints about the price, but in Spain, that’s not the case; under €60 for 100ml, making it recommended and affordable.
A fragrance that’s too rich, both for day and night. I could wear it all year round, although not when it’s raining, as the notes would clash with the atmosphere. Nothing more to say; I wish it lasted longer. It lasts me about two hours on the skin (it’s common for perfumes not to last for me, so don’t worry, it’s a personal thing, haha), but on clothes it lasts until the next day, though still in a personal bubble. High price. An 8/10 as a general note.
I’ve been using it for a month now and I understand the hype around this fragrance. It’s not spectacular, but it’s a scent that many people like for daily wear. It quickly became my second favourite fragrance after ADG Profondo, which is my signature.
Common aroma, somewhat boring: I must admit that the first time I tried it, it was wonderful, with a sparkling, potent opening, and I said wow, I took it home. However, that feeling doesn’t last long; afterwards, it transforms into a salty mineral scent with a metallic touch. It’s for daily use, and given the price you pay, it’s not worth it. The performance is decent; it lasts me about 5 hours, projects well for the first hour and a half. I don’t know whether to use it liberally or leave it as is; honestly, I feel it adds nothing for me. I could easily have bought a fragrance that would last half the price and performed equally well.
For me, it’s pretty top-tier. I like the smell of Invictus, and this is a similar version but with its own twist: floral, mineral, and salty. I think it’s very good. The longevity and projection are good for a fresh fragrance; it’s very versatile, suitable for both informal occasions and dates. It’s nothing super complex or unique, but I personally like it quite a bit, recommended.
There isn’t a day without seeing groups of lads testing this out in the perfumery. It’s become the new Invictus, alongside SWY and others. It’s a mass-pleaser, catering to the tastes of young people. If you’re looking for something that pre-university girls will like, this is your fragrance.
I come from the future. If you like Invictus, keep buying it, because this one costs double and it’s the same thing.
Look, the fragrance is decent, but TikTok has given it more importance than it deserves. It smells like a young, versatile man with quality woody and mineral notes. It’s not a beast in terms of longevity; I’ve managed to get it to last about 7 or 8 hours. The trail is strong for the first two hours, then it settles into a personal bubble. At 19, I think it’s ideal for people aged 16 to 35; it’s youthful yet classy. As for compliments, that’s not my strong suit; there are others that make more noise. I’m not saying people don’t like it, they just don’t dare to say so. 7/10. I see it as an all-rounder except for very cold winters, and while it’s suitable for daily wear and dates, it’s not for parties as there are better options, perhaps it will shine more in summer.
The Valentino Uomo Born in Roma EDT is a young, fresh, and pleasant fragrance that works very well as a versatile daily scent. Its clean and urban aroma appeals to many, and the longevity is reasonable, although it settles close to the skin after the first few hours. If you value a safe and modern fragrance with presence without being invasive, it could be a good addition. However, if you prefer powerful projection, guaranteed longevity, or more unique scents, you will probably be frustrated.
Tested as a decant: it doesn’t even last an hour and I don’t like the aroma much. The mineral notes and ginger aren’t for me; it’s fresh and quiet for everyday wear, but given the price (at least here in Argentina), there are thousands of options that beat it.
Excuse me, I don’t understand the hype around this perfume. It smells good, but it smells like 85% of recent launches. They all smell the same and I don’t understand how a 13-year-old can wear such a scent.
I bought it with my girlfriend while trying out perfumes. I liked it but it didn’t quite convince me, until she gave me the final push. I’ve only worn it for two days; the longevity isn’t the best, but I’m not complaining. Today I’ve loved the scent; it’s masculine and rich.
Pff, I absolutely love this DNA! If you’ve tried the Intense or Extradose and are tired of the sweetness, this is your path. It suits everyone and on my skin it lasts between 6 and 8 hours.
SUMMARY: The DNA of this trilogy (EDT, INTENSE, EXTRADOSE) is spectacular. The EDT is the most versatile, fresh and long-lasting (over 6 hours on skin), and the one that receives the most compliments. The Intense leans towards vanilla, less sparkling and more rounded, but also more muted and less versatile. The Extradose is more like the EDT than the Intense, but darker and more potent; I can’t imagine it for a summer afternoon. In terms of compliments, the EDT wins by a mile. If you have to buy just one, it’s definitely the EDT: it serves for everything, in winter you just need to over-apply. Women have smelled it on skin and it’s not drying, and the EDT wins. Is it worth it? Yes, it should be in your collection; if it’s expensive, wait for a sale. Compared to the rest of Valentino, the DNA of Born in Roma Normal is better than Coral Fantasy, Yellow Dream and Green Stravaganza.
I recommended this to a friend from ‘high society’ who knows nothing about perfumes. Two months later, he told me people were constantly asking about it. Turns out, even those who wear Creed or Tom Ford were inquiring. It’s sophisticated, masculine, fresh and mega-versatile: office, dates, nights out. It’s not invasive and doesn’t project five metres, but if you wear it on clothes and hair, it’s noticeable. It’s not like Invictus, which is youthful and cloying; this is more sophisticated and floral, iris-style. It sits on my shelf without a doubt.
If you’re looking for sophistication and a potent fragrance for everyday wear, modern yet classic, the Born in Roma Uomo is fantastic. It captures a distinct freshness thanks to the violet, giving it a green, aquatic and crisp character without veering into citrus territory. To this, it adds a mineral note, almost metallic, from the crystal salt and cold violet, an intriguing and sophisticated touch. The ginger enhances that freshness rather than being spicy. The dry-down is pure elegance: in the base comes the cedar, that dry, clean wood that smells like a child’s pencil, giving it a masculine structure. I feel it’s timeless, suitable for any age and season. A clean, potent and characterful aroma that projects confidence. My rating: 8.5/10.
The Valentino Born in Roma EDP is ideal for the shoulder seasons. From start to finish, it’s pleasant and doesn’t weigh you down. It has pros and cons: the projection isn’t as intense as others in its style. But it’s sensual and sexy, perfect for dates where you’re seeking intimacy, as its notes are noticeable up close and create that alluring effect.
Rich, but it doesn’t last long. I use it occasionally and I’m not sure I’d buy it again.
Fresh, woody with mineral undertones. A solid daily scent; nothing revolutionary, but it delivers on its promise and might just be one of the most versatile I own.
A dry-down identical to The One by Dolce&Gabbana.
I call Valentino Uomo Born in Roma ‘the aroma of the New York City subway’. And it’s not a joke: the number of people using it is impressive. But there’s an explanation. New York is a super fast city, and for that pace you need a fragrance without complications, immediate, that always works. Born in Roma fits perfectly. It’s generic, but in the best sense. There’s nothing theatrical or innovative, but it stays among the best of its style. It’s that basic and balanced scent that no one can be bothered by, a low-risk blind buy, super mass-appealing, very much in line with Coach for Men and Y by YSL EdT. Performance delivers: good sillage, good longevity, and very easy to use every day. In scent, it has a metallic touch, but not of blood; it’s more of a woody and clean sensation. I perceive it well as aquatic, a marine touch without algae, fresher, herbal and pleasant. You can wear it in any season, at any age, and in any situation. Wherever you put it, it works. If you’re a niche fan, you’ll probably sacrifice it without remorse… and for good reason. It’s not here to change the game. But what it does, it does very well. Rating: 🥈
One of the best in versatile perfumes. Super elegant and fresh, there’s no one who asks and doesn’t like it.
Rich fragrance! Good longevity, I recommend it for cold climates and office days.
I’ve used it enough now, time for my opinion. This scent blends concepts: Mineral, Aromatic, and Woody. The opening is curious and quite ‘sharp’; you feel a nearly crystalline salt entering the nose, a clean, damp saltiness that my nose loves. It has a sweet touch thanks to the mineral notes, though very subdued, lasting 5-10 minutes perceptibly before resonating in the heart. The heart brings the aromatic part, with common sage, something similar to Loewe 7 Cobalt but less icy, more herbaceous and bitter, mixed with a ginger flower that smells quite rooty, blended with its white flower, giving it depth. The heart lasts 3 hours with projection if applied well. Then comes the base, which in my opinion isn’t the most incredible; it smells good of clean white woods, nothing deep or resinous, but combined with the vetiver (which is subdued) they give a neat effect reinforcing the herbal vibe. It lasts 3-4 hours with soft projection. I’ll clarify that it has olfactory curiosities because the opening is very strong, so much so that aquatic traces remain in the heart and base from the violet leaves. If you try to describe it, it’s like being in a pristine river surrounded by herbs with a current from an icy mountain; the water is cold and laden with minerals. For me, it’s great for everything, but not so much for night or cold climates, because the performance won’t be optimal. It’s not formal, but it catches attention and everyone will like it; it has the compliment factor. Scent: 9.5/10, Sillage: 7.5/10, Price: 5/10, Versatility: 7.5/10.
The opening reminds me a lot of Invictus. Very easy to wear and like. They say it’s very trendy among the kids and I understand why; it’s attractive and easy to like. I’m 28 and I use it occasionally too, and everyone likes it just as much.
It bears a strong resemblance to The Icon Elixir by Antonio Banderas, although they don’t share notes; it also fits the Hawas Ice somewhat. It’s rich, but it sounds like a common aroma, easy to like, very basic. It works brilliantly for everyday wear, but not for standing out as something unique.
Easy to wear, with a sweet touch. Versatile for someone aged 15 to 25 who can use it daily or even for a date.
A super versatile fragrance that smells good on everyone. Plus, it’s a very fresh scent, perfect to make your olfactory signature.
This Uomo BIR Edt is a super versatile bloke, ideal for all three seasons and everything in between: from daily wear to dates or night outs. It has a sweet, mineral touch with a salty undertone and a woody base. It doesn’t project wildly, but the longevity is decent and it’s well-balanced. If you want it to be noticed more, apply a bit more, but it’s not strictly necessary. As time passes, you discover new nuances. I recommend trying it as a decant on your skin first. It’s a resounding yes, especially for the young, the kids, and even those up to 25. The price is reasonable and you often pick it up cheap. In short, it’s a good one.
