Begum is another gem from Harrods. The opening is very floral and fruity, with a distinctly feminine vibe, though a man could wear it if he really wants to. It’s basically red berries and freesia over a bed of roses, with a vanilla-amber base (in the end, the amber is vanilla-scented) and a touch of sandalwood. The patchouli is noticeable but plays a supporting role, not the star. It’s a soft, sweet, floral and delicate perfume, perfect for daytime in mild weather. I like it and enjoy it without getting a headache; nothing synthetic and it smells very much like Xerjoff. The house repeats that vanilla-amber floral base often, as in Sospiro or Casamorati, in an Italian style. If you’re not a fan of freesia, you won’t like it. Is it worth $600? If you love these kinds of perfumes, yes. It’s linear, performs well, and in my opinion, suits women better than men. If you can get it cheaper, that’s optimal. Do I love it? Not really. 8/10 ✨
