Palquis is a tribute to the Queen of Sheba, that legendary Eastern sovereign known as Palquis, Balkis, or ‘Creature of the Sky’. Adored by all, its scent is a magnificent Oriental blend of smoky leather, resins and frankincense with a spicy twist. It reminds me of Gucci Intense Oud, but it’s kinder and more beautiful; it has resinous sweetness, no sugary notes, and the price is in a different league. Its heart is a precious woody, resinous incense that guides the entire fragrance. At first, with subtle sweet and green notes, it comes out slightly fresh but without losing that dark tone it’s always had. Then those fresh facets fade, the woody notes recede and the leather takes control with a resinous sweetness that takes the breath away: it’s a rich, smoky leather with dirty nuances, very lovely. The dry down is a sweet amber with a slight woody touch. In short, it’s a dark leather and incense perfume, with niche looks and bargain pricing. It lasts a long time, over nine hours on skin with a moderate sillage, although friends and family have caught it all day. It suits cold or mild climates, with an evening air; I’ve worn it in the heat without issues, but its ideal moment is on fresh days. It’s not for daily wear; it’s elegant and formal, perfect for dates or special events. I didn’t have high expectations of this house, but I swallowed my prejudices when I bought it at a ridiculous price and I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a magnificent leather, incense and resin fragrance that has nothing to envy the greats, hard to find but if you catch it, don’t hesitate: it’s a gem, albeit only for unconditional lovers of dark scents.
