Chevignon is a chypre that has made me very happy this summer. Since its launch in 1992, it was already a classic in the US, where it is now hard to come by and sells for ridiculous prices. Fortunately, it arrived in Spain in early 2010 and is not so difficult to find. The trick is that no current batch is post-2012, so later restrictions have not affected it. And what a difference it makes: the oakmoss strikes instantly with strong pine, patchouli, and a balsamic/mentholated touch. Gradually it settles into earthy notes close to leather. It is the direct heir of the 1980s ferns (it reminds me of Ralph Lauren Polo or Roger Gallet Open), but its 1990s version is lighter and fresher; its trail is moderate, pleasant, and discreet (someone said it smells of rosemary), perfect for heat. So simple and well-made that it seems like the ideal perfume for everyday wear or as a signature. I think it goes brilliantly with jeans and a t-shirt without losing an adult image. It is one of the friendliest classic ferns I have tried and its longevity is very good, above average: discreet but persistent. Many comment that it is very similar to the now-discontinued Polo Crest, although I have not tried it. And one detail: do you know who makes it? Jacques Bogart. So an extra point for this excellent and undervalued house.
