Coco by Mercadona

I was hoping for a hook; I adore coconut, but this smells like nothing at all. It starts with a blast of pure alcohol, as if I’d been disinfected, followed by total silence. Literally nothing. Perhaps it’s just on my skin, but what a fiasco, jo 🙁

Memories of my adolescence… Mercadona launched the Monogotas, with matching shower gel, just as I started my fitness routine at fifteen and carried everything in my bag. Since then, it’s my summer cologne. I love that cloying coconut; I can’t find a Splash that compares. I love wearing cloying scents in summer! 😤 I checked the notes: top of sugar and vanilla, heart of coconut and coconut milk, base of amber and frangipani. Long-lasting and durable for its price. I wish they’d bring back the shower gel. I’m addicted to tropical coastal aromas; coconut is my summer. I slather on oil, drink cocktails, and love smelling like coconut. I can’t find anything better. The Coco Monogotas is the best so far. I wish some brand could make something more sophisticated and long-lasting 🙏🏼. With Tahitian Monoï oil, I feel like a Mediterranean goddess. It only costs four euros, but it would last longer.

A fiasco that doesn’t last even half an hour, though I expected that given the price. As for the scent, there’s little coconut and it smells more like cheap vanilla to me. I use it for lounging at home or mixing with other perfumes.

So far, more Mercadona fragrances have surprised me well rather than badly. This wasn’t the case with Monogotas Coco. It’s hard for me to like a coconut perfume (even the deckchair one with cheap suntan cream), but I couldn’t with this one. After the blast of pure alcohol came an artificial smell and burnt sugar that never improved. Not for me.

Hello! This Monogotas has the worst opening of all I’ve tried. Horrendous, overwhelmingly synthetic and unpleasant. That initial sensation lingers longer than expected and doesn’t fade all at once, but gradually. After half an hour, you finally forget that repulsive smell and can actually smell it without dying in the attempt. To me, it’s not coconut, but a very strong, sweet Bourbon vanilla, not a bakery note, accompanied by a sunscreen scent with a coconut aroma. I hate the opening and don’t like the development either, but when I smell it on my partner, I don’t dislike it. The longevity is brutal, around 10-12 hours, with a soft sillage except at the start which is explosive. For the price, you can’t ask for more. Another one that stings like lightning upon application. You have to wait half an hour for it to soften. Then it smells like coconut oil or bronzer, or an industrial sweet like Bounty. Sweet and synthetic, a bit petrol-like. It lasts quite a while and is very economical.

A cheap product that delivers. At first, it smells strongly of alcohol, even unpleasant like most of this type, but it dissipates in an instant, leaving a soft vanilla/coconut aroma perceptible from a distance. It smells very sweet even over time and doesn’t overwhelm if you use it generously because it’s quite soft. In terms of quality and price, it’s one of the best; it holds up well against more expensive and less natural fragrances. The only drawback is that it doesn’t quite smell like real coconut, but given the price, I don’t think it’s relevant.

I don’t think it’s a bad fragrance; I think it’s a very good vanilla for 2 euros. I’ve had others costing between 10 and 18 that smelled more synthetic until they became unbearable and nauseating. This is good for what you pay; in fact, I think in terms of quality and price you’re paying very little. Whether you repeat or not is another matter, but for the price… Although Fragrantica doesn’t list Mercadona perfumes here, perfume lovers know their excellent quality and price. I know people from other countries who, when they come to Spain on holiday, go crazy buying them. You just have to go to Fragrantica.com to see that people complain exactly about that, that they don’t appear.

The Coco Monogotas is very much a summer scent. At first, it tickles the nose with strong alcohol. Then you note the coconut, but never natural. It’s entirely synthetic, like the Monogotas range; with vanilla it’s pleasant, but not here. The longevity and projection aren’t bad for just over three euros. I bought it for this summer and will use it, but I don’t think I’ll repurchase.
