I stumbled upon this by chance in a local perfumery that was closing down for a clearance sale 😔. It has made me happy from day one; sometimes I just pick it up to smell the atomiser. It starts with a lively yet restrained freshness, then transforms into a symphony of creamy, musky flowers with a hidden woody touch. Gardenia is one of my favourite notes; that discreet, chic elegance has captivated me. Perhaps you won’t find it anymore; I think the house has discontinued it. Pop into small perfumeries and look closely at the shelves; you can find jewels that staff sometimes don’t even know they have.
This perfume draws an aroma in a spiral. It begins with sparkling, lovely, youthful raspberries and bergamot that remind me greatly of the aura of Cacharel’s Promesse. Soon after, the magic begins; different layers of scent settle, and suddenly a sophisticated thread emerges, more woody and dry, which drives me mad. The raspberry appears and disappears throughout the hours over a base… simply gorgeous osmanthus and patchouli that give me the illusion of wood. It is such a fine and sensitive scent that I perceive it differently depending on the area of skin; it is neither flat nor one-dimensional. Balmain perfumes are sorely missed… It is the little sister of Balmain’s Ivoire, the girl dreaming of becoming the impeccable, essentially elegant woman that Ivoire is.
I haven’t felt a fragrance evoke so much emotion in me for a long time. I was gifted a sample and tested it without much enthusiasm, but applying it to my skin awakened a feeling of joy and happiness. It opens with an explosion of red raspberries like a breath of energy, vibrant with a touch of bergamot; then the exquisite magnolias bloom, what a blessing, and give way to patchouli… At no point does it lose its vitality or magic. It softens over the hours but stays close to the skin; I notice it and it makes me smile.
