I was about to buy this perfume blind, but fortunately I bought a 10 ml decant to discover that it smells horrible: it smells like roses with old, withered, dry, bitter stems and the dirty water left in a vase after the flowers have wilted. The aroma is unbearable to me; I’ve tested it several times and the result is always the same, it’s dreadful. I haven’t liked ANY perfume by Elie Saab; all the ones I bought from this brand were blind purchases and I’ve already got rid of them. Of all the perfumes I’ve owned and tried from this brand, this is undoubtedly THE WORST I’ve ever encountered.
Reading reviews like the ones below, it seems they only talk about the first impression, but well. On my skin, after wearing it a couple of times, I’d say it has many more notes than are listed here: there are spices, perhaps patchouli, or some alcoholic note, and in summary, if you know the CH Burning Rose private line perfume, it follows the same vibe. And, as with many perfumes, the better it performs the more time it has to settle.
An absolute gem, one of the finest rose perfumes I’ve ever purchased and worn. Francis Kurkdjian did an incredible job here, stepping away from his own brand and other projects. Almost all the Elie Saab perfumes I own are wonderful due to their quality; this collection is extraordinary with its meticulous, minimalist, and stylish presentation. I loved the simple box with its elegant velvet pouch that protects the bottle’s clean lines and magnetic cap. The fragrance is one of the best rose essences I’ve tried: it’s not the classic ripe rose, but rather clean, pure, soapy, and without excessive powder. According to the brand, it uses centifolia and damask rose with their absolutes, but there’s more: a moderate touch of patchouli that adds sweetness (not syrupy) and an indefinable liquor-like note that gives it vibrancy and luminosity, as if there were a hint of saffron reinforcing the rose and giving it body. I was greatly surprised by this blind purchase, one of the best decisions I’ve made without a doubt.
