I bought a vintage bottle of Facets months ago for just five dollars, and the scent was delightful—so familiar. Now I understand why: I hadn’t smelled the original Dior Poison in years, and what a resemblance they share! They share similar notes, and since these are older fragrances, some ingredients have faded, but the common ones remain. Although Facets dates from 1988 and Poison from 1985, Avon likely commissioned this with the intention of mimicking Dior. The fragrance fades quickly, yet it leaves behind that delicious touch of incense and sweet nard.
Sweet white flowers, violets, a creamy resinous labdanum, and just a hint of incense. Soft, almost imperceptible mossy wood notes adorn the base. What more could one ask for? Many compare it to Boucheron; to me, the latter feels more substantial, serious, and animalically musky. Facets is more relaxed, with that violet and nard blend reminiscent of Versace Blonde, though Blonde eventually leans more towards Fracas. This Avon creation does not lack elegance or opulence. It is a cologne concentration, yet it performs like an Eau de Toilette. It is neither intrusive nor sharp; it clings to the skin quickly, lingers without disappearing, and I can still detect it long after application. A delicious floral with interesting notes. Here in my country, Avon sells it as ‘Gem’. I wish that quality would return at this accessible price point. There is no competition left to offer something good, beautiful, and affordable.
