If you don’t like fig, forget it. It’s obvious, but it needs saying: it smells of fig blossom and its ripe fruit, just before it’s about to fall. It evokes village holidays, eternal summer days, and even a Greek afternoon among the fig trees. It starts with a green, creamy, juicy fig, as if you could bite into it. Over time, it becomes sweeter and woodier, drying down with a clean, musky touch. Although it is an eau de parfum, its freshness recalls a toilet water more than anything. It’s not identical to the EDT, but its greenness is similar. It is a precious fragrance that awakens different sensations in each person. My only complaint is its slight lack of development, though it doesn’t bother me. R&G also has creams and soaps with this scent, a tradition that is fading. Ideal for spring and summer, with a moderate trail lasting six to eight hours. I love that they use real names; if it says fig, it smells of fig, without brand gimmicks and unnecessary editions.

What an exquisite aroma! It is the most representative and natural of the fig tree, its leaves and its fruits. I know what I’m talking about because in summer in my homeland, it is typical to have these trees or borrow some figs for dessert. During my July and August holidays, the last figues de la goutte de miel are the best. This perfume opens sweet and slightly acidic, like the fruit dripping with honey, and as it dries, it turns green and fresh, as if you were under the tree gathering the fruit. It is super natural. It is not a scent bomb, but I don’t care; I enjoy it. I bought it in France on a rainy day and it transported me to my Mediterranean summers at the country house. For me, it has moderate trail and projection. It is my favourite from the house and I hope it never runs out. A jewel.

I bought this perfume blind when I saw it on offer, as I had tried its EDT sibling and liked it but found it too fleeting. I thought this would last longer and it has; it holds up better. The aroma is different: sweeter and denser, although Fragrantica has separate profiles for each one. It conquered me just the same and has become my fig perfume. It is green, woody, and gorging at the same time, with realistic notes of leaves, fruit, and nectar, all swayed by a patchouli touch and sweetened woods. It has the sweetness of the fig without being cloying. The bottle is nice, heavy glass and functional, with a hexagonal shape instead of square. The box and purple label already hint at the secrets; if this fragrance had a colour, it would be purple. It’s a pity it has been discontinued.

What about Roger & Gallet? They have discontinued good recent creations, like this Eau de Parfum de Fleur de Figuier that I shall miss, and many of their fresh waters like Feuille de Figuier. Of their nine cologne extracts from the last four years, only three have survived: tea, neroli, and ginger. After checking their website and searching the city without success, I have only found the scented fresh water and several body care products, which is appreciated for the scarcity. I also wanted to try the Cassis Frénésie extract, but there was no way. Some I still see in a few online shops, but I don’t know how long they will last. I suppose the cut is L’Oréal’s fault; what a disappointment.
