I wasn’t expecting much as leather and oud often don’t agree with my skin, but this fragrance caught me off guard. The bottle is pretty but deceptive: while it has a bright, fruity opening, it quickly becomes sexy with a dark undertone. It starts with an explosion of citrus and passionfruit, like freshly squeezed juice—a note I absolutely adore. After fifteen minutes, the citrus settles into amber and then a subtle, wearable leather. Once dried, it’s unisex, though the opening feels more feminine. It lasts over six hours with powerful projection and sillage; people notice it. It’s wonderful, though I think it suits spring and autumn best; I’d wear it for a summer dinner, but not in the heat.
It smells less animalic or medicinal to me than French Avenue’s Azure (which, for me, resembles the original more closely). This Hurriya, however, has a much friendlier character as it develops, nothing like its opening. Once dried, the amber and fruity facets stand out, with that slightly acidic passionfruit sitting atop a softer, more approachable animal oud and a familiar leather. Without a doubt, a wonderful choice for fresh spring nights or autumn evenings.
