J Crew’s Arquiste 57 is essentially resins and malts with sweet, woody touches and a hint of liquor. Imagine Nasomatto Baraonda with the volume turned down and everything smoothed out to make it more wearable, intimate and mature. I still prefer Baraonda, but this is not bad at all. The evolution is linear, moving towards resinous and woody notes, with acceptable longevity and a short sillage. It suits me well; I see it as more masculine, ideal for cold weather and semi-formal, formal or special occasions. If Baraonda feels too strong or unwearable due to that whisky note, this is your Plan B. Rating: 7/10. Tested on an official tester bottle of 10ml.
