  • At first, it takes me a bit: the indolic mixes with a mature sediment, a sort of ‘matriarchal’ vibe (no offence, just explaining). Then, with the vanilla, it sweetens a little and becomes rich, natural and with good performance. It’s a realistic but monolithic jasmine; aside from that initial shift, it can get tiring if worn frequently. It has indolic, green and slightly fruity notes.

  • A mature, realistic and dark jasmine, it surely contains sambac. It resembles Lush’s Lust, but it’s softer, more wearable and of better quality. In Lust, the ylang masks the jasmine; here, the jasmine always rules, leaving only a soapy musk at the end. On dry down, when it no longer projects, it smells deliciously of skin with a slight clove touch. Yes, it’s a very ‘matriarchal’ scent, smelling of flower rather than green stem like Amouage’s Ashore, which is more youthful. Only for lovers of pure jasmine, which is the star here.

WARNING: if you buy it, use it within six months. It’s very natural and spoils quickly. I kept it in a drawer away from light and heat, and the jasmine has gone ‘watery’, like when you leave a bunch of flowers at home and it goes off. Terrible. Money wasted.

  • WHAT ARE INDOLICS? Try Rogue Perfumery’s Jasmin Antique and you’ll understand instantly. It’s a hyper-realistic jasmine soliflore that immerses you in the flower from head to toe: from that intoxicating freshness to when it begins to wilt and mature. Yes, it smells like a vase, a damp touch that adds realism. On clothes, after many hours, you notice that animalised trail some call ‘cat pee’, but only if it’s been on for a long time; on skin, there’s nothing. It’s not an easy or clean jasmine, but rather classical, carnal and unfiltered. If you’re looking for something ethereal, this isn’t for you, but if you want a jasmine with body and a vintage style, it’s worth it, even in decant. Top quality, excellent performance, and that clove note that appears over time, very well dosed.
