This Massimo Dutti fragrance breaks with its past of cheap, fresh scents; they’ve hired top-tier perfumers and raised the bar on presentation, ingredients, and concept. They aren’t revolutionary, but they smell good (varies by taste) and are well-made. It has a woody, spicy, aromatic opening that plays with the Moroccan kashbah concept and doesn’t remind me of anything previous. I think it’s because the saffron, cedar, and vetiver blend seamlessly. Then it loses that edge and becomes warmer; I sense extra notes not mentioned by MD, a soft, powdery leather touch that lasts the life of the perfume. Although it’s an EDP, the longevity is moderate on my skin: two sprays on the wrist last about six hours. The sales assistant sprayed it for me, so I couldn’t test it further, but the trail will be strong for the first hour before fading. As a novelty, there’s a masculine called White Sandal, with a soft sandalwood (softer than Bravo Monsieur). In total, there are five masculines and five feminines, but Fragrantica only lists the first three of each. Sunday Breeze, in the style of Aventus, and White Sandal, very recent, aren’t listed yet. Given how easy it is to find an MD store nearby, it’s worth taking a look; among the women’s fragrances, there are a couple I absolutely love. Au revoir!

  • It’s one of my most distinctive fragrances; it smells different from anything I’ve tried, and if it were by Tom Ford, it would surely be more famous. It opens spicy, soft, with a hint of sweetness. I’m not sure if it’s the saffron that makes it unique as I can’t detect it, but blended with the base woods, the result is spectacular. I wear it and people always tell me it smells good, even though it’s always the same people, so perhaps it’s a very personal scent. The performance is decent.
